Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. There are restaurants to suit every diner and pocket, from endless street cafes selling pizza and pastries to superb fine dining restaurants offering wonderful seasonal specialties. Great shopping too.

A beautiful ancient city.
A beautiful ancient city.
We visit the Aquarium and the lighthouse and walked in the city.
The architecture is interesting and nice building and decorations could be find at any corner.
It is a very good place to stop for a day or two while traveling in north Italy.
Better to arrive when the weather is good and the view is clear.

Beautiful city.
Beautiful city. So many twists and turns through small alleyways. Felt magical. Great food scene. Felt like a local. Great small city vibe.
Il genovese was our best dinner— very reasonable for a nice dinner. T/terra was a great cheap dinner find! Enjoyably food and 7 dollar pastas!
We took a day trip to cinque Terre which was very easy by train. Unfortunately the hiking paths were closed for actual race.
In town, we enjoyed the old city sites and the aquarium.
Getting around was easy— download the transportation app and you can buy tickets on your phone! Machine tickets were often broken.

Parking was a bit challenging but the town is very large but beautiful. There was a good presence of police officers which was wonderful. They all seemed professional. The lunar park was was enjoyed by the children. The staff there where friendly and the rides seemed well maintained. The staff at the aquarium took time to explain and answer any questions. The aquarium was clean and the exhibits where well placed and planned offering both English and Italian descriptions of animals and sea life. Greatly appreciated by the only limited Italian speaker. The food in the aquarium though understandable limited was above my expectations.

Beautiful city.
Beautiful city. I went on a whim, because of a cheap Ryanair flight, and I am very happy I did! Small enough to travel around easily, and walk to most, if not all, the attractions, great food, very welcoming people, and a very intersting history. A relatively unknown gem.

I recently visited Genoa, and I must admit that I was disappointed with the city's cleanliness. The pedestrian streets emitted an unpleasant odor of urine, which negatively impacted my walks. After only two days of staying, I was eagerly looking forward to leaving as soon as possible. The only thing I liked was the aquarium. Certainly, I will not choose to visit this city again in the future.
I liked the large, bright and clean room. The private bath and shower were exceptional. A large, double-paned window provided a view to a beautiful woods across the street. The shared kitchen area was cleaned by staff every day. There is access to the roof with a washing machine, although the cost to wash is very high but inline with generally high laundry prices throughout Italy. Plenty of shops, restaurants, chemists and grocers in the area. Really accurate check-in information and fast responses to any concerns or questions.
Davide is an excellent host who really takes good care about the apartment. Apartment is in a great condition, very clean and has everything we needed.
Communication with Davide was very easy, he speaks good English (not so common in Italy) and we agreed on everything over Whatsapp very efficiently.
The location is superb, it's a very beautiful walk to the train station via passegiata along the sea. Supermarket is located about 15 min walk. We did not use the beaches nearby, but it's literally 1 min walk from the apartment.
Our host Michele went above and beyond to make sure our arrival, stay, and departure went smoothly, and provided a comprehensive list of recommendations. The location is fantastic in the heart of medieval Genova, as the apartment is located in front of the Spinola Gallery, and one of my favorite restaurants during our 2 weeks in Italy, Locanda Spinola. The apartment itself is spacious, clean, and completely renovated. We had a lovely stay and recommend Michele’s apartment to anyone who visits Genova!
I have booked a room in Hotel Continental, however I was upgraded to Grand Hotel Savoia which is right next door.
I stayed only one night, but it was an amazing experience.
The room was clean and spacious, very beautiful, the bed and pillows extremely comfortable and I just wish I could've stayed more days. I'd say this is definitely one of the reasons why I'd like to go back to Génova. :)
The whole Hotel is very nicely decorated and the staff is super kind!
Excellent hotel with very professional and friendly staff, makes you feel at home. We received a free upgrade to a beautiful last floor room with balcony and sea view. The room is not large but has really everything you need at top quality level, including coffee machine, super comfortable bed and pillows, plenty of amenities, soundproof walls, complimentary bottles of water. Finally, cherry on the cake, we were offered the beers we took from the minbar.
exceptionally friendly staff, who made sure my every need was met with a smile. The food in the restaurant was a gastronomic treat, offering a variety of delicious options that catered to all tastes. Additionally, the hotel's convenient location and ample parking space provided great value for money, making it an easy choice for both leisure and business travellers.
I loved that the hotel is on the beach, literally, there is about a 20m distance from the wall to the water, absolutely smashing, I snorkeled for hours, the rocks behind the hotel are full of fish and there are quite a few species.
I liked the feel of the hotel, it looks great inside, the staff were great and happy to help.
Thank you !
We required a hotel close to the station Brignole and also close to the historic centre. The hotel met our expectations for everything. It was a 20 minute walk to the shopping area and palaces. The hotel was very modern and clean and the room and bathroom were brand new. It was a boutique hotel just being renovated
We liked the room it was really cleaned and comfortable. The stuff from hotel was nice and helped us with parking the car on other site of the street since parking place is a bit small. Hotel is located only 20min to aquarium.
Fantastic, clean, modern hotel - ideally located near train station which we used to visit Cinque Terre/Portofino area and perfect for our flight out from Genoa as located near airport (20mins walk)
We arrived earlier than the check-in time, but they let us get into the room quickly. The staff were nice and helpful. The hotel is very close to the train station, so it was convenient for us.
The room was like a hotel room, very well equipped. The facility had a large shared kitchen as well as breakfast room which doubled as a common area and bar. Also a laundry room.
