Accommodation in Hambantota

Chamin, his wife and his sister are welcoming and personable hosts, sharing their beautiful property that overlooks a wildlife-filled lagoon. The day we arrived Chamin and his wife were making their way back from Colombo however he graciously arranged for his sister to cook us a meal last minute and organised a safari tour of Bundala National Park for the following day. Chamin is a local, born and raised for a few generations, he loves and respects wildlife and is an avid photography, so he was our tourguide of the park, sharing his knowledge of the area and the many species in Bundala. We were fortunate enough to get upclose views of elephants, crocodiles, deer, monkeys and many species of birds such as bee easters, ibis, pelicans, osprey, eagles and many more. We chose Bundala NP to explore because it is smaller and there are less jeeps, however the wildlife and nature there is just as incredible as the bigger parks in our opinion. The room itself was spacious enough for four adults and had two balconies that were perfect for bird/animal watching

Staying at the House of Freedom was a little adventure. the room is small but nice, Isubu is a great host (if you stay here, ask him what there is to do, he knows so much about the area and "has a guy" for almost anything) If you want a luxury stay and accomodation, you are at the wrong place. If you are fine with open air shower, basic toilet and no AC, this is a place for you. There are all kinds of animals around the house, apparently Elefants visit too. Isubu gave us a Bird-watching-walking tour in the morning before our departure which is truely the cherry on top of it all.

This is the place if you like nature! It is a birds paradise. Best place, just to sit on the balcony and watch - and Ravindu knows them all. Further more we saw: peackocks, many different storchs, crocodiles, wild boar, elefant. The room and the bathroom were spotless clean, ac and van working well. Ravindu did everything to make sure we had a great stay. If you stay there take breakfast and dinner, it is delicious! This was the best fish curry we had on our one month travel around Sri Lanka! cooked by Ravindu's mother. If you need anything else, there is a small shop just next door. Also TukTuks are available. This place is really highly recommended.

Very quiet and cozy place with a beautiful garden full of birds and monkeys. The rooms are clean, spacious, have everything you need - air conditioning, fan, mosquito net. There is not warm water, but during the day the sun heats it up in the tank and it is getting even hot, very nice. There is a large balcony with tables and a beautiful view, it is very pleasant to sit there and watch the surroundings and sunsets. There is a bird watching tower next to the house, from where you can see the national park. We were spending hours there with our spyglass. Very hospitable hotel owner, he helped us with everything and organized a wonderful safari to Bundala national park. Breakfasts and dinners are delicious and plentiful and for a very good price. Not far from the hotel there are lakes with a lot of water birds. The place is a birdwatching paradise. We had the great pleasure of spending 4 days here enjoying and relaxing.

Our recent three-day stay at Shangri-La Hotel Hambantota in Sri Lanka was simply extraordinary. Despite the 3-hour journey from the airport, arriving at this remarkable hotel made every minute worth it. From the moment we stepped into this expansive paradise, we were met with exceptional service and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The variety of activities and leisure options available were impressive—whether relaxing by the adults-only pool, enjoying the state-of-the-art gym, or simply exploring the expansive grounds, there was never a dull moment. Walking through the beautifully maintained golf course was an absolute delight, as we encountered numerous stunning animals in their natural habitat, adding an enchanting touch to our stay. On our last day, we discovered the Ulpatha Clubhouse, which provided an amazing experience and a fantastic atmosphere to relax and enjoy sports at their finest. Dining at Bojunhala restaurant was a highlight of our experience. Without exaggeration, it offered the best food we had in Sri Lanka—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Special thanks to the outstanding staff who consistently went above and beyond. The manager, Tharindi, was exceptionally attentive, ensuring our stay was perfect in every detail. Our housekeeper, Rohana, provided impeccable service—always efficient, attentive, and friendly. Moreover, the pool bar staff made our relaxing afternoons truly enjoyable. The vastness of the property offers something special for everyone, making it an ideal destination for both adults and families with children. The sense of space and tranquility is unmatched, ensuring comfort and privacy throughout. We highly recommend Shangri-La Hambantota for an unforgettable Sri Lankan experience. We had a fantastic stay. We arrived and were warmly welcomed. Our room was ready and it looked great. We had a room with sea view. We were immediately offered a beer on arrival and in the evening the host prepared fresh fish, shrimps, chips and rice for us. One of the best dishes we've had in Sri Lanka. The accommodation is located directly at sea, so you have a lot of peace here. The host is very helpful and will make your stay comfortable.

This resort was amazing, me and my family loved it. We had a beautiful view of the lake, and saw a wonderful sunset from our tent. The interior of the tent was gorgeous, we loved how cozy it was and it was very neat. Had so much fun here and would love to come again. From New Zealand ❤️😊

The place was clean, just in front of the city center, weekend market was just opposite , we were able check in late and did not have any issues, can enjoy the early morning sunrise with beach view.

Lovely spot, great food, excellent staff and an easy 10 minutes to Bundala National Park.
