Strahan is beautiful. Right on the Gordon river which is blue and lovely. You can cruise down the Gordon river or be pampered on the wilderness train ride. Walk along the river side and see the waterfall. Great meals at the pub. There is a visitors information shop who can give you a list of all restaurants in the area. It is a lovely place that you don’t want to leave. Near cradle mountain for scenic walkers
We were surprised how large the town is. We thought Strahan was just a little fishing village but there is so much more beyond the waterfront. People were friendly and welcoming. We went on the Gordon River Heritage boat cruise and that is something I would recommend to everyone. It is a long day, especially with the wind we experienced. However, the boat is super comfy and able to handle the rough weather. We learnt a lot about the river and its convict and political past. Fascinating!
The day tour river cruise on the red boat up the gordon river including Sarah island was perfect and great history lesson provided by great guides. The nightly performance of the play ‘the ship that never was’ was really good fun and complemented the tour. Great food options in town and a great cafe near ferry wharf to kick off the day.
The cottage had everything you needed. The rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable and plenty of towels. I did appreciate the selection of teas you left. It was lovely watching the rabbits out of our large windows. Even though the weather wasn’t good I still enjoyed my time in this cottage. Thank you
We did the train trip from Queenstown ( our trip from Strahan was cancelled as repairs we being done on this line) It was a great experience, friendly staff, informative and met some lovely people too!! Highly recommended. Pub food at Hamers bar& grill.....great place to eat.A drink/eats on the balcony of Restaurant 42dgs wonderful views!!!!
Strahan is a picturesque quaint fishing village. The highlight was definitely the Gordon River Cruise. We stayed 2 nights. We were disappointed that the road to Ocean Beach was closed, but we did find some fabulous views of the sunset over the water. There are good dining options for a variety of budgets, and the cafe across the road from the cruise terminal was a welcome addition. Its a shame that there weren't more shops to explore but those that we went into were very friendly.
