Perfect stay! Great location in the middle of nature. Nothing fancy, just connection to Costa Rica beautiful nature ! Comfy beds, everything you need, waking up with birds in the middle of the garden. Heyner’s family is so nice, his wife is cooking a great breakfast and dinner. They booked the mangrove trip which was amazing and we had horseback riding with Heyner. It was a great experience . We will definitely come back!!

The lodging is no frills, but the total experience is outstanding. Heyer and Jenny and their family are very welcoming. They also invite WorkAway participants to help out on the farm, so there are lots of people to have meals together and exchange interesting conversation. We stayed a total of 3 nights over 5 days and enjoyed it immensely. As a bonus, we saw many bird species including 4 Scarlet Macaws in the trees next to the main house and watched a troop of Spider Monkeys pass through the trees next to our lodging.

I had come to Palmar Norte before to get some money and go to the pharmacy. Also I bought some shorts while there. The town in Grace Bay is one most remote in Costa Rica and had none of the above. Saw plenty of foreigners and Costa Ricans doing the same as for banking and shopping. Also the pills that the pharmacist prescribed for me I was hesitant in taking initially. After two days, I decided to take them and the my skin cleared up. For a short stay Palmar Norte is not bad, especially for catching buses to other Costa Rica cities.

Sierpe used to be a main trading post for the area, now it trades in tourism. It has a bustling dock and boats are coming and going all day. There are a few restaurants, bars and accommodation but it’s a place you move through, not particularly a place you’d want to stay unless you were using it as a base for the tours on offer, The Corcovado National Park, Drake Bay, Canó Island and the Mangroves which boasts several species of bird and animal life. The community is very friendly and helpful, certainly worth a visit, if only a short one.

Sierpe is a tiny town, just a few blocks; nothing much to do here with a couple of restaurants. One night is enough if you are driving and need somewhere to rest and take the boat the next morning. It is safe to leave your car here. Driving to Drake Bay is risky as there are rivers to cross and can damage your rented car if it is not a 4 WD.
