We had an amazing stay at Pretty Poppy! The house is beautiful, very spacious and well-equipped and perfectly clean and comfortable. It is very well-located, a short walk to the centre and an easy drive to all the historical Somme sites. The owners were so kind and friendly, going above and beyond to help us when we had a problem with our car - thank you! Albert is a charming town and the history in the area is extremely interesting and moving. Highly recommend and thanks so much for a great stay!

Beautiful village, close to tourist sites and amenities.

Beautiful village, close to tourist sites and amenities. Plenty to do or just relax. Well worth including on your itinerary. We ate dinner in the township of Albert, 2 kms away, at Le Bistrot & La Basilique. Both highly recommend but worth booking ahead. Breakfast at our accommodation was excellent.

I love Albert as it makes an excellent base for exploring the Somme, I have based myself here a number of times. There is a great museum in the centre of the town, the historic basilica and some lovely architecture. There are a few small restaurants in the town centre and a great Asian buffet on the edge of the town. It is not the town for lovers of nightlife, its a slow relaxed town.

Close to WW1 sites and the town of Albert.

Close to WW1 sites and the town of Albert. A number of places to eat in Albert, tourist information office difficult to find at first as a bit out of town and situated in the library but very helpful lady called Valerie who spoke very good English. Parking in the market square was free and lots of space. Aveluy a quiet village outside Albert so needed to drive to the town for shopping and eating.

Initially quite hard to find as it’s hidden away from Main Street. Signage was poor. Front entry was messy and unfinished with workers tape at entry. First impressions were doubtful but if verge grass was kept cut short with scrubs or colourful flowers to make entry with a larger sign alerting patrons to a sort of “ here we are” feeling. Once through the gate though expectations are met .

I didn't read any reviews in regard to the accommodation really because I like to go somewhere without any preconceptions. To be honest I don't tend to write reviews either for the same reason On this occasion however I feel its is justified to say just a few things Firstly Christine your host is so charming and the love she has for the property and her desire for you to enjoy your stay really comes through The building is full of history and the room is of a good size and the bed very comfortable with a lovely view of the adjacent woodlands Though the building is historicaly old the bathroom facilities are up to date and are private and again a good size In the morning you are greeted by Christine who provides a breakfast and the opportunity to sample her home made jams I thoroughly recommended you stay here if your lucky enough to get a booking and you will not be disappointed

A pleasant town.

A pleasant town. Ideally located for the Somme battlefields, with a very good WW1 museum. I recommend The Royal Picardie hotel for a stay or for an evening meal, prices are good, quality high. The staff speak English.

Lovely countryside, quaint town, some good restaurants to try out local French food and produce. Close to many WW1 cemeteries, memorials and museums. We visited the Delville Wood Museum - a must see, we ate at the Salty Pig Restaurant, very friendly staff and a good night out.

There was a lot to see if you are interested in WW1, the cemeteries are dotted around, we didn't get to go to the caves at Arras, and we didn't get to go to Jules Vernes house in Amiens as it was closed the day we were there! Lots of history here. We will be returning to the area.
