Overall was great.
However , during our stay , we had a horrible experience on 24/12/23 early morning around 4:20am , which the emergency alarm in the room was triggered twice ; after we call the receptionist , was told that “may be someone “ accidentally touch the emergency alarm that it was triggered for the whole hotel rooms. That doesn’t make sense if only one of the room guess has some emergency case , how can the emergency alarm triggered in every rooms ? Anyway. After that I can’t sleep back again.

Comfortable and clean room. Warm hospitality. Breakfast is also very good, especially the selection of a la carte, but buffet could be better if there’re more choices.

You can tell the building is old, but it’s has modern touches and I think that’s what gives it charm the way it’s set up, I like that. Location is close to everything. Neighborhood is quiet and accessible to the MRT to get to either airport.

Overall, a pleasant surprise. My first time in this area of Taipei, so everything was new. The hotel is relatively old for Taipei standards but they have made significant efforts to maintain comfort and convenience. I highly recommend the hotel to all - families to single travelers.

Maedong Gondola 🚠 is a terrific day out. The Taipei 101 tower was great for a perspective of the city. Both ‘must do’ experiences.
Lovely, polite and helpful people, even on the MRT. The MRT is exceptionally efficient and well designed.
The streets and metro are very clean.
The massage at Gengi Spa Ximen was fantastic.
I’d avoid Ximen area next visit because it’s so run down.

The highlight of my trip was my morning stroll by the riverside. It was a peaceful Sunday morning. The weather was cool and it was not that sunny. In contrast with the hustle and bustle of the previous Saturday evening (which was also a sight to behold), there were not a lot of people at the plaza and the park apart from some joggers and men fishing in the river.
I culminated my stroll with a visit to one of the popular eateries in the neighbourhood serving authentic a-gei (淡水老牌阿給 創始店, No. 6之1號, Zhenli St, Tamsui District, New Taipei City, Taiwan 251). This was one of the reasons I wanted to visit Tamsui. I ordered a-gei with a side of fish ball soup. And it did not disappoint. The a-gei was very filling and flavourful. It reminded me of sotanghon I used to eat back home. The fish balls, on the other hand, were packed with filling and immersed in a hot peppery soup.
I was looking for a relaxing/restful experience for my weekend trip. I definitely got that during my stay in Tamsui.

The Raohe and Shilin Night markets were amazing, as was the food court in Taipei 101!!!
The walking tour guides were very informative and fun. The day long trip to Yehliu, Shifen and Juifen was fantastic! Excellent guide and comfortable coach, beautiful itinerary.
The MRT is very accessible and easy to navigate. Visited many beautiful temples and museums. The museum of Indigenous tribes (very close to the National Palace museum) was enlightening!
Don't miss the changing of the guard at the CKS memorial.
The airport shuttle service for a fixed fee (actually a private taxi, which took us to the correct hotel) is definitely worth it (the Uber app did not work at the airport, but did work at the hotel to get elsewhere).

Good for walking along the riverside. More interesting if you wander up the back streets. The hotel staff didn’t know where a laundry was but found a laundromat 5 minutes walk away - turn right and walk up the hill - take the first lane on the right and its on the left - self service with washing and drying machines - new and clean.

Taipei has a unique charm, simply wonderful.
Taipei has a unique charm, simply wonderful. The people are very friendly and communicative. Many Japanese, Korean, and Chinese influences blend together. There are culinary night markets, narrow streets lined with traditional cafes, shops, restaurants, and massage parlors. Prices are fair, and the city boasts a modern, top-notch MRT network.

I loved Tamsui, where the hotel is located.
I loved Tamsui, where the hotel is located. The old part of town was around the corner and 7 min. walk away is the long waterfront with hundreds of food stalls, restaurants and lots of people having a good time strolling, flying kites and eating delicious local foods.
The hotel was ok but dated. The mattresses were not comfortable and the air conditioner didn’t work.
