As reluctant as I was to spend what I consider a lot of money even though it was for my Wife’s 70th 😊I now have to say it was money so well spent. The accommodation, food and staff were top class. What was there not to like? The only thing that comes to mind is having to leave ☹. A big shout out to Kevin, an excellent butler who was consistently friendly, professional, and willing to help….and always remembered our drinks of choice.
Of course, the main purpose for us was to see wild animals in their natural habitat and this we did on every drive with the expert skills of Herbert(tracker) and Julian (Driver/Ranger). The passion and skill set that Herbert and Julian demonstrated on all our drives was exemplary.
Seeing leopards, cheetah, rhinos, zebra, giraffe, elephants, wart hog, packs of wild dogs etc up close was so special. Topped in some way by the excitement that Julian showed when we saw a lynx on a cheetah kill. Julian was full of useful information about all the animals we saw. His passion for his work was obvious.
How Herbert spotted a camouflaged leopard on a termite mount at 80-100m while we could hardly see it using quality binoculars or seeing a 2-inch green chameleon in a green leafed bush in the dark by torch light amazed us.
The drives were excellent. We liked what appears to be the self-imposed rule of only 2 safari jeeps on any animal sighting at one time with others hanging back and waiting their turn, thus avoiding a free for all, which I’m led to believe happens in the main Kruger Park. We also liked the interaction between ‘competing’ lodges whereby they constantly updated each other about current animal sightings.

We stayed 3 nights at King's Camp out of a total of 11 nights in South Africa and this was by far the best part of our entire trip. The place is immaculate - very large and comfortable rooms, extremely friendly staff and a beautiful location in the TImbavati game reserve.
We were taken out for dawn and dusk game drives by our own dedicated ranger Cynet and spotter Sunnyboy, in vehicle we had to ourselves most of the time. All the seats were next to the side (so there were no obstructed views), there were warm blankets in the car for the cold and we stopped for sundowners every evening and watched the stars come out - and what stars - amazing views of the milky way.
The game was excellent too - lions including cubs, leopard + kill, and all the rest of the big five (if that's what you're into), hyena and cubs. A big highlight was following a leopard through the bush in the car - simply unforgettable! Plus a multitude of birds from eagles to wax-bills - and our extremely knowledgeable ranger Cynet could identify them all!
Our room was enormous and luxurious - private secluded pool and veranda area, carefully designed so that it was not overlooked but looked out into the bush with animals traipsing past!
There's also a wonderful hide by the waterhole so you can watch the animals coming down to drink and mud-bathe - including a whole herd of elephants! The staff still have a sense of wonder about the animals they see and are just as excited as the guests. And there are steenboks and kudu who visit the grounds and wander around the rooms - and a lovely night-watchman who escorts you to and from your room after dark.
The trouble with the food was that it was too good and too plentiful - hard not to gain weight! Well cooked, well presented and served by lovely, attentive staff. Every other night we had a buffet in the traditional "boma" around a fire with our guide.

We loved the location in the middle of the bush. The amenities and the comfort are outstanding while eco responsible. The staff is absolutely lovely and very careful while being very professional.
The food is excellent and changes every day, the walk games are wonderful even if of course you don't see as many animals as in cars...but the contact with the nature and the intercation with animals is unique...and our guide was so nice and skilled. I defintely recommend to anyone who wants to live a true expreience in the bush

Exceptional.
What a find.
Joe and his team made us feel so welcome.
We stayed here last year and it was good but this time it’s even better and we can’t fault anything.
The location is superb and just 2 minutes from Orpen Gate.
The food and service rivalled any 5 star hotel and restaurant anywhere in the world.
The rooms are clean, spacious with beautiful crisp linen and very comfortable.
This is a superb find and thoroughly recommended.

I am South African and I was bringing my family to see where I came from and experience the bush. This place was perfect for a family . They rooms for families are excellent, giving everyone enough space and the beds where very comfy. There is no TV - but there is bush TV - each day elephants, warthogs, various species of buck, zebra etc came and spent time out the front of our deck. We sat 1m away reading a book. We go so close it was wonderful and the kids got to experience the beauty of watching an animal relaxed and happy in their own environment. Andre and Nicholas were amazing guides who were patient and funny and taught us a lot about the animals and the environment. The food was amazing and you never felt like you wanted or needed more. Pretty much everything was made onsite. The breakfast was beautiful and the Boma experience was lovely! Thank you to all the team at Simbevati River lodge for making my family’s introduction to Africa such a wonderful memorable experience! And the animals - well we saw the big 5 in less than 24 hours and because the guides know their stuff we had plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with many of Africas famous and less famous animals. The highlights were the Lion and Leopards and of course the dear family of elephants with tiny babies and also the baby hyenas! You will not be disappointed at all !

This is truly a unique place.
This is truly a unique place. We had up closing viewing of animals each day but it didn’t feel like we had encroached on their space because the guides know the animals species so well. There are no fences and we only saw one other car of people. The lodges give one another space but communicate where they see animals so everyone can experience it. It’s one of the last places you can see horned rhinos which felt sincerely special.

This is part of the Greater Kruger Park and the game move freely across a huge area. Klaserie offers a more private and quieter experience that the main Kruger Park. The game is plentiful and it's not unusual to encounter the big 5 on any one day.

Best safari experience of them all!
Best safari experience of them all!
This was the best safari experience of all we had while in Africa for a month during December to January when we visited South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. Our guide Hayden was amazing, taking us off-road into the bush to catch some incredible animal sightings. He and the 2 trackers, Patrick and David, had a skill that others we experienced did not at finding the Big Five up close and often during our 3 days at Motswari. The twice a day schedule was a bit crazy especially the 5:00 am game drives, but missing a bit of sleep was worth it over and over as we had incredible success catching so many animals at this preserve.
The accommodations and the meals were also first class considered being out in the wild, and the entire staff was attentive and friendly, particularly in the restaurant and bar.
If there is one safari experience not to miss in Africa, Motswari is it!
