The most unique and interesting place we stayed on our 35th-anniversary trip was Park am See. We stayed in one of the restored caravans, La Mandragora, instead of the usual B and B or hotel. While I don't think I would want permanently live in a caravan, it was wonderful for a few days. The owners are interesting and have backgrounds in the history of food and of art. They shared interesting stories about how they acquired and restored the caravans and lodges on the property. From our conversations, it seems they are interested in preserving this unique location and sharing it with others. This is a campsite, so there are camping vans, people in tents, and unique lodges all on the property. Our location was quiet and close to the lake. We opted to pay extra for breakfast, which we enjoyed very much. We were presented a selection of fresh produce, beautifully cooked eggs, and a variety of meats and bread. One morning we had breakfast inside and the next we had it out on the porch. The owners helped us make a reservation at a local restaurant that offered a delicious meal and seemed full of both regular locals and tourists. The location of Park am See was perfect if you have a vehicle. The area was more peaceful than Halstatt, which was so crowded and presented challenges for parking. We opted to drive around to Obertraun and take the boat across to Hallstatt. The boat ride was pleasant, gave us a unique view of Hallstatt, and helped us avoid the crazy parking problems there. We would absolutely stay again and highly recommend this as a fantastic experience.

We booked a small room with a mountain view (although I suspect all rooms have a mountain view since there are mountains in all directions). It had a balcony, room for clothes and a kettle (with cups). It is close to the Obertraun ferry terminal (was not open when we were there) and the train station. The Hallstat train station is also about 20 mintues away. From there you can take a ferry to Hallstat (the train station is on the other side of the lake). You can also get quite easily to the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car (around 45 minutes walking). There is also a supermarket nearby (about 10-20 minutes walking)

The location of the apartment is great! And small garden with the outcome to Bodensee is a nice bonus. The apartment is big and cozy. You have everything you need for the nice stay. Separately I would like to highlight hospitality of Sandra. She provided best service to accommodate me and my dog. And helped with advices.

The apartment was very spacious, clean and quiet. It is about a 15-minute pleasant walk to the centre but very near the funicular station and the main bus stop. Further down the street from the apartment towards the lake is a fantastic viewpoint of the postcard picture of the church without the tourist crowd and we only discovered it on our last evening. The host Monika is very nice and she let us keep our luggage at her gas station which is super near on our checkout day. We highly recommend this apartment!
