Staff spoke some English and were super friendly. They provided parking at the cafe across the street when I told them I was renting a scooter. The hostel is a 30 minute bus ride from Ryotsu Port and is walking distance to a supermarket and the beach.

Excellent facility, the set up is so relaxed, the owner is sooo cool. We fed the couple of swans and a few ducks that were out on the waterfront, the view is out of this world. We drove and the parking was easy to negotiate the location position it is not noisy and you can hear the water birds and other birds chirping. As the name says (ZEN) it truely is. Also the convenience store is only about 8 minutes walk away. Coming back from the store we visited a shrine that was having its annual summer festivities, kids were doing a Sumo fight next to the temple, the staff at the temple were inviting, also the men of the town were carrying a traditional Japanese float around the town then back to temple, up the stairs under Tori gate and to the front of the temple, ( the float is very heavy so is fun to see the guys struggling, but they get it up there. Its a once in a lifetime chance to see traditional Japanese culture.

At the guest house, each unit is fitted with a wardrobe. At the guest house, the units have bed linen and towels. This is 100% the most memorable accommodation I’ve stayed at in Japan so far, out of two trips. The host is kind, the food is incredibly good and generous portions. Great ryokan experience. ❤️ The bathrooms and bath (onsen-style) are shared, but were always well cleaned. It’s a small ryokan, so there isn’t a lot of foot traffic in these areas anyway. The bath was very relaxing. Most rooms are traditional tatami. There is parking in front of the building if you rent a car visiting Sado Island (which I heavily recommend). I would want to come back to Nanauraso when I come back to Sado.
