I highly recommend a short or longer stay at the Ji Family Courtyard Inn.

The owner and his daughter did everything to make us feel at home. The place was really beautiful, our room was cozy and warm. They cooked us breakfast even if we had to leave early in the morning. They were so kind to take us to the train station. If you come to Pingyao this is the perfect place to stay!

Beautiful accommodation at the centre of ancient city of Pingyao in the bustling South Street. The owner and staff are very friendly, warm and helpful. They picked us up from the station and brought us to Ancient City (cars are not allowed inside) and also brought us on the day of departure, both for very reasonable fees, because we were with 5, too many for a taxi. The hotel and rooms were in a traditional style, allowing for great pictures.The beds and cushions were very comfortable for us. The bathroom and toilet are combined in a small room, but it wasn't bothersome.The owner knows the nearby shops and good spots to go to, definitely ask for tips. We enjoyed our 2 nights and 3 days in Pingyao a lot, definitely recommended.

Offering Chinese and Western food on site, Pingyao Harmony Hotel features well-decorated guestrooms and simple dormitory rooms for guests. The hotel is family owned, take a chance to speak to them, they are really interesting people. Everyone we encountered with spoke perfect English. We got a transfer from and to the train station organized but a hotel owner. It was probably a wise thing to do because the hotel is in the very heart of the ancient city with lots of narrow and pedestrian-only streets, so it could be tricky to get there without exactly knowing how to get there. The room is a great combination of modern facilities with a real Chinese flair, we really liked the vibe. The breakfast can be organized (not included in room price), they have some variety of western breakfast options. Although probably Chinese option could also be organized because we've seen Chinese tourists taking Chinese breakfast, but not sure about that.The breakfast is a-la carte (no buffet).
