Kilpisjärvi in winter is a magical experience. The village is located in the far north of Finland, in the heart of Lapland. It is a popular destination for winter activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. The area is also known for its stunning scenery, with snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, and the majestic Saana fell. One of the highlights of a winter trip to Kilpisjärvi is the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. The village is located in an area with minimal light pollution, making it an ideal place to view this natural phenomenon. The Northern Lights can be seen on clear nights throughout the winter, but the best time to see them is during the darkest months of December and January. Hiking trails are well signposted.

Hiking trails are well signposted. The supermarket at the center is very good. Public transport connections could be better but the twice-daily bus to/from Rovaniemi is very reliable. Tour operators organize day tours to the Acrtic Sea in Norway. They sound good but unfortunately were cancelled in summer 2021 due to the covid crap.

What a lovely cabin a bit outside of Kilpisjärvi! The cabin is located on a small hill with a nice view over the fells. Even the cabin is small, you find everything there you need! Kitchen well equipped, modern bathroom, comfortable beds! Even I arrived before check-in time, they made sure I could already pick up the cabin key.

This is place is highly recommended for people travelling to Kilpisjärvi. This place is merely 200 metres from the bus stop where long distance buses from Oulu, Rovaniemi, Kittila or Levi stops. There is K market nearby. The Kilpissafarit which conducts various tours is also merely 700 meter from here.

Nice cottage with sauna. Excellent service so everything was easy to find. Terrace was large and we enjoyed the the fireplace. Kitchen was good and we could make an excellent dinner from raindeer. Defenately place I would stay again at Kilpisjärvi
