This hostel is 100% recommendable! Located right in the centre of the lovely village Ballater. Reachable with the bus from Aberdeen also perfect for those coming with public transport. The hostel itself is very cosy and clean, the common area equipped with everything you need and spacious. The hosts Dominique and Daniel are very warm, welcoming and friendly, that are happy to provide you with any tips you need. We had a great time enjoying the Highland games and the stunning nature that surrounds Ballater!

We went to Ballater to be close to Balmoral Castle, where we went to an artisans market on the grounds. We were there in October, so opening of other parts of the castle were not available, due to royal residence use. I would return to this beautiful part of Scotland again if given the chance, to see more of the castle.

Beautiful little town in a stunning location. The town is decorated with the most amazing hanging baskets. Several pubs, all seemed to be busy and offered good value food. The town is ideally located for exploring the beautiful area

A very scenic town centre.

A very scenic town centre. A good supermarket and several specialist shops (bookshop especially) . just try and avoid the sweetshop (far too tempting) Several nice restaurants and an excellent fish and chip shop. Bike hire by the old station and easy routes along the old line.

Ballater is a lovely village.

Ballater is a lovely village. Very clean and tidy as you would expect being so close to Balmoral Castle. Beautiful hanging baskets outside the shops Plenty of cafes and gift shops. Lovely village green around the Church in the centre of Ballater with seating areas . Free car park and free parking around the Church. Lovely village to visit or stay. We stayed overnight at The Barrel before visiting Balmoral Castle the following day.

It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have stayed in on our trip we had been away for 4 weeks and this place by far the very best. Homemade cakes and a great breakfast. Highly recommend to everyone to stay, but you should stay a minimum of two nights.

perfect tranquil location within easy walking distance of lovely ballater. Dog friendly and good immediate local woodland walks. A great base if you want to sightsee, go walking or cycling on / off road. The hosts were very pleasant and the accommodation was very clean and well equipped. Also had a dishwasher which was nice. Parking was easy too with lots of space to do so. Price was really good for standard of accommodation

My room and bathroom were exceptionally clean, as was the whole of the hotel. The lady got up early, so she could make me an early breakfast. The staff were so friendly and the food was great. Nothing was too much trouble - even during a busy Bank Holiday weekend. I would definately stay there again. A lovely small hotel, right in the heart of the lovely village of Ballater.

Easy drive from The Braemar Gathering and close to Ballater for an evening meal. Our double room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a very sleek en-suite shower room. The friendly owner Kath was very welcoming and keen to ensure we had all that we required. We had a an enjoyable breakfast that was perfectly cooked and well presented.

Wonderful old house now a Hotel. Lots of period furniture and curios. Great location and a magic sunny outside area to enjoy the surroundings and have a wine or two. Food was good but limited menu.
