The proprietors were wonderful to deal with over several plan changes. Meals (breakfast/dinner) were served in a wonderful "sun room," well prepared with good food options. It's only a block off the promenade (though up hill) and its convenient bus stop. They run both a "hotel" and "apartments" so there are numerous sleeping options.

Very good location overlooking Douglas Bay. Being out of tourist season, it was nice and quiet. The breakfast was complimentary, and there is a nice room with a view outside onto the bay. It was great as a solo traveler like me. If I return to the Isle of Man, I would stay again.

Douglas, like the whole island is beautifully clean and pleasantly accessible. We travelled by car using the Manxman Ferry, whose terminal was two minutes from our hotel in Douglas Bay. This was our first visit to the Isle of Man which we toured extensively during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the broad range of scenery from high moorland to rugged coastline, which were reminiscent of North Yorkshire, The Lake District, Ireland and Cornwall, all woven beautifully and seamlessly into one. The local people are inviting and friendly, with good restaurants, museums and countryside walking. We shall return.

I enjoyed the island, first trip.

I enjoyed the island, first trip. First day we travelled the north end, did the TT course and the Victory cafe. Spectacular views around us. visited the usual tourist spots. Day 2, visited the south of the island, down to the Calf of Man. Again, spectacular views surrounded us. Due to the time of year, presumably, a few places closed. Decent food in the restaurants and some great pubs to try. Sunday night was aproblem, most places closed early and little choice foe evening meal/drinks etc. Up early in the morning for the plane in any case !!

Public transport is easy and cheap for travelling as a family to the places of interest. Excellent day out visiting the Laxey Wheel and museums - kids really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. Also tram up to Snaefell.

Despite a rather rough crossing and limited things to do on the ferry, I suggest the 8th deck front lounge for extra comfort, on arrival Douglas felt welcoming. Parking was easy enough, road network is complex at times but Google maps helped us where needed. Very pleasant shopping area with lots of stores to choose from. Only stayed for 1 day as we travelled around the Island, but during our time is was enjoyable

The reason for my visit was to visit friends,if I had been on my own in October not much to do on the island if you have visited before.A lot of food venues closing early afternoon not much to do at night as hotel only open for bed & breakfast. I had a hired car was able to get around the island otherwise would have to take bus , weather warning one of the day had to stay indoors scary.....

almost becomes a ghost town when out of season.

almost becomes a ghost town when out of season. Many places ,shops and even restaurants closed down. The Island itself with its small coastal towns and outstanding countryside , slow relaxed lifestyle makes it in my opinion paradise for retirement which was what I was looking for. Warned that it gets very loud and exciting during the TT Races'. Best of all the locals are so friendly and helpful. o

I needed a hotel room for an overnight stay in the centre of Douglas, and the Empress was perfect - central location, a good room rate, good breakfast, good Wi-Fi, decent bed. Compared to other hotels in Douglas, which I stayed in over the course of the last ten years, it really holds it own. And since I had a nice and roomy room with sea view, and high above the Douglas Promenade, it was a very pleasant stay.
