Stavraetos was definitely the best accomodation during our month-long Balkans trip. Splendid location, overlooking the plateia of a beautiful village. Getting there was half the fun - a longish drive on winding roads in one of the most spectacular areas of Europe. The village of Syrrako has preserved its authenticity and is much less touristy than the villages of the nearby more popular Zagoria area. The property is located in an atmospheric old house. Our charming room was furnished with a lot of style, yet including full modern comforts. Very friendly hosts, English spoken. As an added bonus, they also operate a restaurant serving delicious local food for very reasonable prices. Syrrako is located at an altitude of ca. 1150 meters, so nights and mornings are cool even in summer. Anyway, as we visited during a heat wave of historic proportions our room still got quite warm, so adding a small fan to the room would be a good idea for such periods which are sadly quite likely in the future. Free parking on the outskirts of the village, some 10 minutes walk from the hotel (the village itself is car-free which adds to its charm).
