I spent three incredible days at Corrib Lodge with my wife, and as a fishing enthusiast, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The Lodge is located right on the lake, with private access, and the views are absolutely stunning , but what really makes the difference is the fishing. This place is run by an Italian owner who’s not only a great chef but also a passionate and knowledgeable guide. Every day we went out on the lake with him, fully equipped with top-notch gear, exploring hidden spots, landing great catches, and hearing fascinating stories about the lake’s history. We even stopped on remote islands and visited old castles along the way. They also organize deep-sea fishing trips for those who want to explore the ocean, a great option I’ll definitely try next time. The whole team is friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is relaxed but well-run. If you love fishing and want something truly special, Corrib Lodge is the place. I’ll be back for sure.

We particularly liked the dining room and the view. We own the Fastnet Hotel in Schull in West Cork (Instagram thefastnet1) and we are very honoured to having been ranked number one in Ireland by the Irish Examiners Travel editor’s choice: Tom Breathnach's top 10 stays of 2023. We liked everything: spacious room, view from the window, excellent restaurant, trad music in the bar during the first evening, good lounge area to play chess or talk. It is a short drive to Kylemore, Diamond Hill, and Cliffden. This was the best and cheapest hotel during our stay in Ireland.

Toward the end of our 4-day stay, I decided to self-quarantine myself and cope with a cold while the rest of the family enjoyed the sights and sites in the village. At some point the manager became aware of my status and coordinated with the kitchen to prepare some broth-heavy soup (as the attached tavern did not have any chicken noodle soup on their menu). I also liked the attached bookstore and chatting with Robert, the owner, before buying a few genealogy-related books. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was our encounter with about 10 locals at the next table in the tavern. After volunteering to take a photo of their group celebrating an 80th birthday, they provided me with a few leads in my search for some information regarding my 2g-grandfather in the 1850s. That led me to the Puddleducks Café down the street and a chance to chat with the manager (who connected me to the owner - and his brother - at the Spar station).
