You cannot beat the location of this hotel. We took an executive suite and had magnificent views of the peaks. But, these views can be seen from many positions within the hotel. The room was perfect. The food is excellent, especially considering that they are producing it in large quantities. Restaurant staff were very attentive. There are many hikes ranging from easy to strenuous and so there's plenty to keep you occupied. They also offer guided walks, horse rides etc. It is my fourth stay here, and I hope I'll return many more times.

This was an amazing stop on our honeymoon. We were a bit unlucky with the weather as it rained both days, but it was a great place to disconnect from everything and relax. The property is very nicely appointed with everything you need to stay in and cook, amazing wildlife around the river. We did a hike and saw the giraffe’s in the adjacent park which was a highlight of the trip.

We loved this beautiful and private house with its magnificent views of bush, wildlife and birdlife. We especially enjoyed the glorious sunsets and stargazing from the veranda and had the option of doing so from the fire-driven hot tub. A fire pit is also located below. The owners provided wood for the barbecue and tub. The house has two very spacious bedrooms - both with bathrooms with tubs and walk-in showers - and super comfortable beds. The kitchen is big and well stocked with nearly every amenity including an ice maker. The owners warned us of a pot-hole ridden kilometre or so of road to the house, but it was easily nagivated with a regular car. The town of Winterton is about 10-15 minutes' drive and has a couple of stores if you run short of self-catering supplies. Wine and beer is also available in the house and payable via an honesty box. Details of trail walks and runs are also in the house for more athletic types. Cathedral Peak Wine Estate is 5 minutes away for wine tastings and food. Loved our stay!

We had lunch at the pig and plough, nice menu - slow service, however, we still enjoyed the food and the venue. The Thokozi restaurant and Deli, good food and a nice variety. Sandra se Winkel was an experience - well worth going to when you are in the area.

Winterton’s most attractive aspect is its proximity to the surrounding countryside and the magnificent Drakensberg mountains! There are some good eating places worth a visit! There are a number of churches and a museum for those interested! Winterton boasts with numerous accommodation facilities, all countrified and cosy!

The tour was outstanding (by the owner)of the Anglo Boer...

The tour was outstanding (by the owner)of the Anglo Boer battle sites. The location is perfect at Spionkop. The charming rooms could do with some aircon and bathrooms could do with modernisation but this shouldnt put off anyone from experiencing the Lodge. The staff all very friendly.

It’s quite relaxing, very beautiful mountains, breathtaking, tranquility l like everything about it. Mostly the place is very very safe you could just walk around with your gadgets and other personal belongings without any fear

The Drakensberg is and always will be an amazing holiday...

The Drakensberg is and always will be an amazing holiday venue. Lots to do and plenty of places to eat. Scrumpy Jacks is overrated and I would skip this venue and rather go to The Valley Bakery for either a breakfast, lunch or snack - freshly baked and good value for money. The Dragons restaurant at Dragons Peak was our best meal of the trip and the menu is varied and well priced. Lots of stunning hikes all around and plenty of places of interest to visit. Quad bikes, Scoot Tours, Canopy tours, Bird of Prey centre, Reptile centre, ceramic, candle & carpet weavers and the list goes on.

Beautiful place with the possibility of free movement in the surrounding nature. Very nicely maintained surroundings of the accommodation. Excellent restaurant and delicious meals. Swimming pool. The staff is pleasant and friendly. I can highly recommend.

The hotel is comfortable and has a relaxed and friendly feel to it. The team is excellent, attentive and accommodate any request. Guided walks were fantastic and so was the horse riding. I didn't travel with kids but kids club looked great and was always attended with staff members. Spa treatments were also excellent. Food choice was incredible and the team made a special effort to accommodate my healthy eating requests, which I really appreciated.

It is in an excellent location, close to other attractions. We enjoyed a beautiful hike and visited the Hotel, all of which is within walking distance. Directions to the property and instructions for keys etc. were clear. The house was well-kept and clean and had everything we needed. The welcoming 'gifts' were an extra special touch - we loved the wine and chocolate. We will definitely be back.

Winterton Country Lodge is a perfect half way stop between the Free State and the KZN South Coast when travelling through the Golden Gate park. Situated off the main road in a peaceful, secure forested area. The lodge is beautiful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. We will definitely return for a longer stay.
