Very nice ryokan managed by very nice people. The location is the best of all in Nagano, nearly in front of the Zenkoji temple. If you wish to try a Ryokan, which is something very different from a western style hotel and refreshing in many ways, just book it!

The hosts are kind and thoughtful and gave us very good advice for dinner locally and for our next destination. Best of all, the breakfast was delicious and kept us going all day. Our room was small, but we knew that when we booked so we were not bothered by that in any way. Aovely way to break up the trip from Tokyo to Kamikochi if you have a car and it is worth a visit just for the sake of being there.

Opened in August 2012, B&B Hotel Hyochoan offers simple Western-style accommodations. Free in-room WiFi is available and guests can enjoy bird watching from the property’s terrace. JR Karuizawa Station is a 15-minute drive away. Extremely accommodating and friendly owners who went out of thier way several times during our stay. Firstly, we didn't have a booking to visit the Christmas candle light up at the Karuizawa Kogen Church but they offered to give us a lift anyways to try and visit which we did and somehow managed to get in. Secondly, they insisted on fetching us after dinner which was really kind of them. Lastly, we had a two year old travelling with us and they allowed him to play with a bowling pin set in the dining area. Lastly breakfast was a huge spread and you could see the huge effort they put in the dishes and presentation.

Oshi Ryokan is located in Nagano, 20 km from Zenkoji Temple, 22 km from Nagano Station, as well as 32 km from Suzaka City Zoo. This ryokan provides free private parking, luggage storage space and free WiFi. The ryokan features family rooms. The location was extremely beautiful and the host was so nice! Tateshina Shinyu Onsen features a natural hot spring bath for public and private use, Japanese and Western meals and aromatic massage treatments. The lobby offers free WiFi, and a free shuttle is available to/from JR Chino Station. We stayed here for two nights of our 14 nights in Japan. It was the fanciest and most relaxing part of the trip. All meals and even one drink per person per dinner was included in our package and y'all, the food was so good. You eat in a small private dining room in your comfortable indoor clothes. You don't make any choices so you'll have to be the type that eats what you're fed, though they do cater to allergies (not for us). The food is great quality and variety even if some of it isn't your taste (try everything though!). We had a western style room with two twin beds. I'm 6'4" and I was fine with everything including bathroom and shower. I couldn't quite fit in the chairs at our little table but I didn't need to. The private bath you can reserve is great, I can't take hot baths like my lady can but it was a good temperature. It was cold outside and an open air bath but it wasn't uncomfortable getting in or out. All the interior spaces are beautiful with an elegant library theme. The exterior is slightly more plain but the running stream through the property makes up for that. The staff struggled a little more than the hotels we'd stayed in thus far with helping us in English, but we had English menus and verbal explanations at meals and everyone took great care of us. Checkin was a breeze as they were expecting us and had all the paperwork prepared.

Offering a free-use reservable hot-spring bath, shared indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, and traditional multi-course dinners with Shinshu beef, Shibu Hotel is 8 minutes from Yudanaka Train Station on the free shuttle. The traditional rooms have Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor. Very comfortable and relaxing stay. Staff was very hospitable. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. In house onsen was very nice. Right in the heart of Shibu Onsen area and a short 10 min drive to snow monkey park.

Villa Iizuna highlands - 飯綱高原の山荘 - is a recently renovated holiday home in Nagano, where guests can make the most of its massage services and garden. This property offers access to a balcony, free private parking and free WiFi. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and bicycle parking for guests. This was our favourite stay in Japan! The house was beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable — it instantly felt like home. The location was perfect, and everything was clearly labelled and thoughtfully explained, which made our stay so easy and enjoyable. We also appreciated the little touches like the provided coffee, tea, and other essentials. The host was incredibly responsive and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. We truly loved our time here and hope to come back one day. Highly recommend staying here!
