Alles op loopafstand. De binnentuin waar we op uitkeken was prachtig. We sliepen er met een baby, dat ging goed. De host was erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam, zelfs toen we wat waren vergeten mee te nemen.

AKARIYA Hostel bevindt zich in Karatsu, op 5 minuten lopen van Strand Nishinohama, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, privéparkeren, een gedeelde lounge en een terras. Host was amazing. Offering suggestions of things to do and places to eat. She was very welcome and the facilities were great!

Guest House Maru bevindt zich in Kashima, op 47 km van Historisch Park Yoshinogari, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis privéparkeren en een bar. I booked a room here as I was traveling to Japan to play a Pokemon Go event in Nagasaki. I had a wonderful time in this house and the charming, little town it is in. It’s like staying in a beautiful, ancestral home of a Japanese family. I actually lowered my expectations for a bit because it’s not a hotel, but even then I was surprised by how well-kept, sparkly clean everything is. I shared the house with 3 other guests who are also in Japan to play Pokemon Go, and yet I didn’t see a single strand of hair left in the bathroom, a smidge of stain in the toilet, and I didn’t hear noise at night. It’s family-run and they do everything by themselves. I was coming in from Fukuoka Airport and it took me a while to figure out the trains and the transfers I would take to get to Kashima and arrived late at 8:30PM, it’s way past check in time but even then I had a warm welcome from the owner, Mr Maru. He showed me where the restaurants are, which places to visit, where the nearest 7-eleven is. He even let me in the staff-only area of the kitchen when he noticed that I brought dinner that I needed to reheat from 7-eleven. In the morning I met his older sister in the kitchen and she made me breakfast. She showed me where Yutoku Inari shrine is which I planned to visit on that day. I rented a bicycle at the Hizen-Hama station which is just like 150 meters from the house and biked around Kashima, ate Mikan ice cream, until I reached Yutoku Inari shrine. It is an amazing place. In the evening when I returned the bike at Hizen-Hama station, I went to its Sake bar which serves all the sake this little town produces and I was warmly welcomed even though I don’t speak a word of Nihongo. I tried all the types of sake that they have as I knew I can get smashed and still find my way home because the house is just a stone’s throw away from the station. Overall I had a pretty amazing experience and would gladly visit again.

We were very comfortable and enjoyed our discussions with the amazing host too. Location is walking distance to great restaurants and all points of interest in Arita.

Guesuthouse UMINOTO bevindt zich op 14 minuten lopen van Strand Nishinohama en 46 km van Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome, en heeft kamers met airconditioning en een gedeelde badkamer in Karatsu. The guesthouse was perfect in every way. It feels like sleeping at home with a Japanese family (which actually is true). The owner is really friendly. He helped me to find a parking space and explained everything to the littlest detail. When I arrived I got a free mandarin as they are in season now. The room itself was really comfortable and spacious. The beds were not too hard. The kitchen (with free tea and coffee), toilet and bathroom are shared with the other guests. However, since there are only 3 rooms, you almost never have to wait. The location is nice as it's close to the sea and about a 20 minute walk to the city centre and the castle.

Can’t believe it’s already 10 years old. Beautiful Arita-yaki for use in the kitchen. Coffee shop and curated porcelain shop at the 1st floor really made this a great stay. Takashi-san provided great suggestions and even accompanied us to some Arita sights!

Saga International Guesthouse Hagakure is gelegen in Saga, op 15 km van Historisch Park Yoshinogari en 49 km van Kanzeonji-tempel. In walking distance to the train station. Great to be able to store luggage after check-out. Appreciated the welcome tea and sweet.

ゲストハウス アロマ ligt in de wijk Ureshino Onsen in Ureshino, op 32 km van Huis Ten Bosch en 13 minuten lopen van Ninja-dorp Hizen Yumekaido. Absolutely wonderful lady running this place together with her husband, she showed us what true kindness and hospitality are. Why the facilities are not the greatest, they are comfortable and clean, and the host lady's caringness more than makes up for it. She goes way beyond what you would expect from a host, making us free food, giving us little gifts, staying up long past our check-in time because we missed our train, offering to pick us up from the station and just having a very kind conversation at the breakfast she made us. It's almost like being at your grandma's home again!
