Copper Mine Cottage will be featured on Inside Selling Houses Australia New Beginnings as a follow up to the make over of my Church property in Ellalong, NSW. (Selling Houses Australia Season 16 episode 1). Built between 1846 and 1847 by the SA Mining Association and designed by G.S Kingston, this was one of the ‘Thames Street Cottages’. Copper Mine Cottage is one of the first buildings to be built in Burra, and is a fine example of one of the the earliest residential buildings that still remains in South Australia. Relax and enjoy this charming, comfortable 2 bedroom, self-catering cottage, with its mod cons, curios and old wares that is a stones throw from the town centre, shops and pubs. There is on street parking directly outside the property which is situated on Upper Thames Street close to Market Square. You can also park in the private parking space which is adjacent to the left of the building off of Upper Thames Street. There is enough room for a caravan or camper van in this space. You also have back access to the property via Lloyd street. The local IGA is only two minutes’ walk from the property, where you can purchase all of the supplies you may need during your stay. A short drive to Clare provides additional shopping at Woolies or Foodland. Please do not place anything on the cook top hot plate, such as the toaster or other utensils, for safety purposes. You have a range of pots and pans intended for cooking on this surface. Please ensure all of the hotplates are turned off when they are not in use. You are welcome to enjoy the combustion fire in the cooler months and during these months fire lighters and firewood have been provided for your initial use. There is a split system in the lounge, and another air conditioner at the back in the kitchen. Each bed has an electric blanket during the cooler months and portable heaters can be made available. To ensure your safety please turn these appliances OFF when you are out of the Cottage.
My last property featured in Selling Houses Australia, season 16 episode 1. A beautiful red cedar Church which languished on the market for 22 months prior to the SHA makeover. As a retired lecturer in Early Childhood Education and Care, some of my pastimes include writing recording and performing music, renovations, gardening, cooking and walking with the dogs. As your host I will provide you with a relaxed, inviting, welcoming and private atmosphere where you can enjoy a comfortable and happy stay. A list of contact information will be made available to you and a direct mobile number for any emergency situations. A Gas BBQ is located under the front porch. Instructions for its use can be provided by web link. Please let us know if the gas is low. There is a swap ‘n go at the service station, and should you need to use this, please take a photo of the receipt and we will reimburse you. Please clean the barbecue after use or this will incur a further cleaning charge. We have placed a silicone cover for use during your barbeque-ing which should reduce the amount of cleaning required. For longer stay rentals (both company and private bookings), a weekly cleaning service is provided on Fridays at an additional cost - 105. Please note that the beds need to be free of all personal items, such as clothing, phones/computers, watches, toiletries etc, otherwise the linen cannot be changed. This is a general cleaning service and does not include washing of dishes or personal laundry. N.B. Power and water usage is charged for long term rentals by way of an invoice post stay. Please maintain the self-catering accommodation in a respectful manner at all times and consider your neighbours as the majority of them are permanent residents and homeowners. Bins are located at the back of the property, please dispose of your rubbish on departure. Red lid bin is for general rubbish and the larger green bin houses all recyclable items.
Burra itself is an historic mining town with National Heritage status and attracts tourists from all over the world. Along with Moonta, Burra is currently in review for their bid to attain "World Heritage status" as part of the Cornish mining heritage worldwide. Burra has just won two awards from the 2024 Hello SA Top Tourism Town Peoples Choice. "Tiny Tourism Town" and "People's Choice Award". Here is a link to our guidebook of interesting places to visit during your stay. https://abnb.me/Oeck4XBWlGb On arrival you will be greeted with a complimentary bottle of local wine as part of your welcome hamper, with a range of treats to tide you over. The local food and grocery shop is only two minutes walking distance away. If you have a furry friend or two staying with you, they may use the pet beds provided. For the benefit of all other guests we ask that you do not let your pets climb on the furniture or the beds. We have provided pet bowls, however it may be a better option to bring your own pets familiar bowls. We really would appreciate you removing any dog poop from the garden before you leave, using the pooper scooper and bags provided. 😊 There is a fee for each dog per stay - 20. Please dispose of any food scraps in the bins outside, and it is advisable to avoid leaving any opened food on the counters overnight, as this can attract mice and other pests, being a regional property. Smoking facilities are available outside of the property as it is a strictly no smoking zone inside. It is really important to note that little children must be supervised at all times. The cottage sleeps 4 however additional guests can be accommodated, for an additional fee - 40 per person per night. Fold up beds and linen will be provided for your guests. The same fee applies for children, beyond the original 4 guests. Porta cots or fold up beds and linen is available, as well as safety gates and high chairs. Just let us know what your requirements are in advance.
