Stay at this conveniently located Greater Hobart property on the Heritage Highway in the village of Pontville, Tasmania. Enjoy close proximity to the many attractions that Hobart and the Southern area of Tasmania has to offer. With its convenient location in the heritage town of Pontville on the fringe of Hobart we are just a 5 minute drive from Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, fifteen minutes to the historic town of Richmond and its surrounding wineries and the jewel in Tasmania’s crown, MONA. Lythgo’s Row Colonial Cottages offers couples comfortable, lovingly restored cottages, inside a circa 1845 heritage listed building. With exquisite attention to detail all the cottages offer king size pillow top beds, reverse cycle air-conditioning, smart TV’s, free WiFi, coffee and tea making facilities plus a Lavazza pod machine and a Welcome Hamper comprising of many local goodies for a continental breakfast and beyond. Being located North of Hobart not only will you be close to all the attractions of Southern Tasmania but in an ideal position to explore the Midlands and the Highlands. B O O K * D I R E C T * F O R * B E S T * R A T E S * A N D * F L E X I B L E * OPTIONS * The tiny village of Pontville is located just 30 min north of Hobart on the Midlands Highway. Just one kilometre from Brighton it became an important stopping point on the road from Hobart to Launceston in the 1830's and effectively replaced Brighton which, at one time, had been promoted as a possible future capital of the island. Today many of the colonial buildings survive and there are a couple of lovely walks with history boards to point out the buildings of interest. There is also the Crown Inn opposite us that serves meals 7 days a week and the excellent restaurant Parish, housed in the old Uniting Church just across the bridge. The area around Pontville was first explored by Europeans in early 1804 and by 1806, with serious food shortages in Hobart Town, expeditions of soldiers were being sent into this area to kill kangaroos and emus. It is claimed that during one of these expeditions Private Hugh Germain, a well educated member of the Royal Marines, started giving various local sites exotic names. Thus, only a few kilometers north of Pontville, lies the incongruously named village of Bagdad and Pontville is actually situated on the banks of the river Jordan!
