Telde is 13 kilometres from the island's capital. It is the largest and most populated municipality in the eastern region of the island of Gran Canaria. The area has archaeological sites such as Baladero, Tufia, Cuatro Puertas, Tara and Cendro. To visit the historic centre of the municipality of Telde, a stroll through the Barrio de San Juan neighbourhood, which is the foundational nucleus of the city, is a must. The main civil and religious buildings are located around the primitive Church of San Juan Bautista and the Plaza Mayor. The Church of San Juan stands out for its Main Chapel, a work made up of two altarpieces, one Gothic-Flemish and the other from the 18th century that frames the previous one.
