Vista Mezquita is a light, spacious, and thoughtfully designed apartment located in Busquístar, at the heart of the Alpujarra. From the terrace, you’ll enjoy a stunning 180-degree view over the wild and beautiful Trevélez valley, with many historic landmarks visible in the distance.
Vista Mezquita is situated atop a 500-year-old traditional Alpujarra house. Once a hayloft, it has been recently transformed into a modern and comfortable guest apartment. The central space consists of a cozy living area, a dining room, and a hand-built, fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, electric oven, extractor hood, fridge, dishwasher, and a variety of kitchen utensils. As coffee roasters, we’ve ensured you have a nice espresso machine right on your kitchen counter! On cold days, the wood stove will keep you snug and toasty.
The apartment features two bedrooms: one with a double bed (160x200 cm) and the other with two single beds (90x200 cm). The bathroom offers a spacious shower and two washbasins. Both the living room and the master bedroom open onto the south-facing terrace, where you can marvel at the magnificent view of the Trevélez valley. Sunsets here are a daily highlight, with the sun dipping behind the Mezquita of Busquístar.
Vista Mezquita is classified as a Vivienda Rural, registration number VTAR/GR/03068.
We are Danny and Marianne, your hosts. Or rather, Dani y Mariana, as we’ve come to be known here. Our first visit to the Alpujarra was in 2013, followed by a second trip in 2015. By the end of that same year – long story short – we were the proud owners of this house.
At first we used it as a holiday home. Every time we returned, however, we fell more and more in love with the area. Then, once more came the day we were due to head back to the Netherlands, and we looked at each other and both said, “I don’t want to leave.” That feeling didn’t go away. We began making plans to stay here permanently, and after several years of preparation – which included a complete renovation of the house – we finally took the leap in 2024.
Now that we live here, we love sharing the authentic Alpujarra experience with others. We'd like to welcome you to Vista Mezquita!
The Alpujarra is well known for its white villages, relatively green appearance, the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, and the endless walking trails. Tucked away in a fold of the Trevélez valley, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, lies Busquístar. It’s one of the most authentic villages in the Alpujarra, having preserved its rural charm. You won’t find souvenir shops or fancy restaurants here, but there’s a small grocery store for your daily needs and a bar serving simple yet delicious meals. The sounds around you will be of the wind, bird chatter, sheep, and the occasional barking dog. Words like ‘hurry’ and ‘haste’ don’t exist in the local vocabulary, making it the perfect place to escape from the stress of everyday life. You can explore on walks, embark on longer hikes, or simply unwind with a book and a glass of wine on your private terrace, looking up occasionally to take in the view.
If you’re in the mood for a bit more activity, the more touristy villages of Pampaneira, Capileira, and Trevélez are just a 15-minute drive away.
Vista Mezquita is ideal for hikers. We’ve put together a collection of 30 walks you can take directly from Busquístar, complete with GPS tracks. For exploring further afield in the Alpujarra or Sierra Nevada, we provide walking guides and maps. Busquístar’s location is perfect, situated between the Poqueira and Trevélez valleys, both just a short drive away. As keen hikers ourselves, we’re happy to share our local knowledge with you. Since we live right beneath Vista Mezquita, we’re always on hand to answer your questions or assist in any way.
If hiking (alone) isn’t your thing, there are companies offering mountain guiding, mountain biking, and horseback riding excursions. In summer, you can take a dip in one of the nearby swimming pools or cool off in a fresh mountain stream. Or simply enjoy scenic drives through the Alpujarra, discovering its charming villages along the way.
