Puget-sur-Argens is a town in the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, bordering Fréjus, and 70 km northeast of Toulon. Attached to the kingdom of France in 1482, the village was fortified during the religious wars in the 16th century and it became a true commune in 1599 when the bishop of Fréjus gave up his feudal rights on the territory. Located between the Esterel massif and the plain of Argens, the locality develops during the second half of the 20th century: areas of activity are developed, and crossed by the RN7 then by the highway, Puget-sur-Argens sees its population increase from 1,500 inhabitants at the Liberation to more than 7,000 today. However, the city has preserved its environmental heritage: witness the woods of Malvoisin and especially the banks of the Argens (and the ponds that mark them), integrated into the Natura 2000 network (remarkable fauna and flora deserving of protection). Several wine estates are still in operation (appellation Côtes de Provence), and the production of olive oil as sheep breeding are still perennial.
