La Maison Glycine is set in the heart of the Charente Maritime countryside with our pool overlooking the open fields to the woodland. Enjoy the space of our patio area set out on white stone chip with maybe a glass or two of wine whilst enjoying your BBQ,or, laze under one of trees if its too warm or take a swim in our pool, the chose is yours, as the pool is for your use only whilst you are our guests. Should you prefer the beach or seaside ,La Rochelle and the beaches are only 50 minutes away. We have a superb place to stay,you can walk around the quiet roads and explore the woods, or if you have bikes cycle around the area following the designated routes( or make your own) or just simply relax. Ideal for famiies or couples alike. Bars , restaurants, Banks and the supermarket are all within a 5 minute drive. If you are into Bird watching we have a resident pair of Peregrine Falcons, its their 2nd year here and they are nesting in the back of an old house across from where you are staying. You can also watch the Kites circling and calling on the thermals they catch off the land. we also have a pair of Hoopoe birds nesting, they can be seen on an evening digging and digging for food. A little more shy are the pair of Lesser spotted woodpeckers who since last year have been regular visitors. We of course have the lots of birds visit as we do put feed out for them ,and they do tell us when the feeders are empty by a tap,tap on the window of our house! There is a farm at the bottom of the road and Michel does supply milk to be processed for supply into the supermarkets, but he does sell unpasturised milk if you should want it.

We have had the main house and the land and the barn for over 18 years, and decided to buy the property next door ( now La Maison Glycine) in 2017. The property needed a full renovation. It has belonged to a local family for generations, latterly it produced Cider ( hence the press in the kitchen , which if cleaned will still work, I am tempted ) a massive vat that held grapes to be turned into, not wine but went to make Cognac and Pineau in the next village of Le Breuil ( in the catchment area just of Cognac, we are just outside).The kitchen area was an earth floor with next to the press a barrel rack and 6 large barrels ( sadly totally useless as they had dried out ). There is still a stone horse trough at the very back under the worktop with the white wood panelling facia. We replaced the floor over the Room ( the other floor in the bathroom and rear small bedroom are cherry wood which was replaced 14 years ago) We then set about electrics , plumbing, lighting, making partition walls repairing old doors and loads and loads of paint plaster board and effort. We have tried to mix modern with traditional as we did, not want the place to lose it character, feed back so far has been we have succeed it doing just that which is pleasing. We planned La Maison Glycine to be as though it was our permenant house so it felt homely and practical, we hope you agree. We are very, very sociable people, but, do believe it is your break or holiday and feel you may well require your own space, however, we are very happy to socialise if you wish and obviously will always be around should you need us.

Superb rural walks through the forests that surround us. Ideal area for cycle breaks, we can offer secure storage for cycles in the Garage of the Barn. New cycle routes have been added this year 2023. Lots of wildlife around the village , we have resident Barn owls, Little owls, in the village, along with a pair of Peregrine Falcons who make an appearance both visual and audible. lots of small birds, Blue tits, great tits, Red starts, Golfinches, Greenfinches, Robins, Wrens, Woodpeckers, Black birds etc etc . Local Donkey Sanctuary less than 2 km away. The Town of Aulnay is 4 km away offering an Intermarche Super with Fuel, La Poste, Restaurants,Bars, Market ( Thursday and Sunday) , Banks , Boulangeries, Butchers, Newsagent, Hairderessers , Pharmacy, Garages, Roman buildings, The grand church that is visited by Pilgrims en route to Lourds.
