As you ascend the external stairs at the front and enter through the main door, the private entrance to Wordsworth’s Stamp House is immediately in front of you. A handy boot room is well placed enabling you to take off your boots after a hard day on the fells, also equipped with cupboard space, work surface and integrated washer/dryer and freezer. From here, step through Wordsworth’s original front door to the beautiful open plan living space comprising a modern kitchen with fully integrated dishwasher, microwave, fridge, electric oven and induction hob with discreet pelmet lighting and spotlights. The relaxing lounge area has deep-cushioned, sumptuous furnishings including two sofas perfectly placed in front of the large smart tv. The attractive, panoramic dining area is positioned in the glorious bay window overlooking the heart of Ambleside, including the famous Royal Oak Public House across the road. The cushioned window seat is just the spot to perch yourself and watch the world go by as Wordsworth did over 200 years ago.
A hallway leads to two luxurious en-suite bedrooms to the rear of the apartment, nice and quiet to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed with window seating, wooden blinds and smart tv. Plenty of storage is available by way of a large dresser and hanging space. The stylish walk-in shower room has a spacious cubicle, basin with an illuminated mirror over, WC and heated towel rail.

Although the property does not have its own private parking, a parking permit is provided for one vehicle, which can be used on several different car parks in the village and throughout the South Lakes. You can pull up outside the property to unload and collect the permit out of the property.

Historic, grade ii apartment with direct literary links to William Wordsworth
Located in the very heart of popular Ambleside, Wordsworth’s Stamp House proudly displays an English Heritage plaque denoting the building’s Grade II listing and importance. The former workplace of England’s most famous poet, William Wordsworth, the property dates back to 1700 and in 1813, William became postmaster and distributor of stamps for the county of Westmorland for a salary of 400 pounds per year. What was his former office has undergone a major refurbishment to provide generously proportioned, luxurious accommodation for modern-day visitors.
Sitting at the top of Church Street, Wordsworth’s Stamp House is ideally placed to enjoy the delights of this scenic village where a wealth of attractions and facilities can be sampled on foot with little or no need to use your car. Wonderful walking can be had straight from the doorstep and our knowledgeable team are only too happy to share with you their own favourite routes to help you get the best out of your visit. Although you have everything here to properly self-cater, it’s always nice to eat out at least once during your stay. The Lakes are renowned for offering a superb collection of fine dining experiences including five Michelin Star restaurants, one of which, The Old Stamp House located almost adjacent to the apartment – booking is advisable.
