Property information

6 The Poplars in Porlock is set in a peaceful spot just off the village centre, with excellent access to local footpaths. It’s an ideal base for exploring this vibrant Exmoor village, as well as the countryside and coastline beyond. The cottage sleeps up to four guests in two double bedrooms and is arranged over three levels. It offers a cosy mid-terrace setting with pretty front and rear gardens (not enclosed) and easy access to Porlock’s restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and shops. The area is superb for walking, with woodland trails, open moorland and coastal paths all close by. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi, heating and electricity are included. One dog is welcome for a supplement of GBP20. The property is strictly non-smoking. Arrival is from 4 pm and departure by 10 am. A shared footpath leads to the cottage, with the entrance opening into the welcoming sitting room, complete with traditional cottage windows overlooking the front garden. The spacious, newly updated kitchen is well equipped and flows into a dining area at the far end, with a door opening to the rear garden. A utility room and downstairs toilet sit just off the kitchen. On the first floor, there is a comfortable double bedroom and a family bathroom featuring a bath, separate shower, toilet and basin. A further staircase leads to the second floor, where the second double bedroom enjoys lovely views across the garden, allotments and village rooftops, stretching towards Porlock Bay.

Neighbourhood information

Porlock is a village with deep roots and a rich history, with evidence of settlement in the surrounding landscape dating back to the Stone Age. Today it sits within the peaceful beauty of Porlock Vale, framed by the striking shingle ridge and views across the Bristol Channel to the north, and by the rolling hills of Exmoor to the south. This rare combination of shingle ridge and inland salt marsh creates an excellent habitat for birdlife, attracting winter waders, wildfowl and the occasional unusual visitor. The village is lively and welcoming, offering three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware store, several art galleries and a visitor centre. Independent restaurants, cafés, shops and tearooms add to its character, with many extending their opening hours during the summer season. Just 1.5 miles away, Porlock Weir provides a charming harbour setting with its own pubs, restaurants, tearooms and small independent shops such as Exmoor Glass. It’s an easy and enjoyable place to explore, whether for a meal, a wander or to enjoy the coastal scenery. Minehead is the nearest town, about six miles from Porlock. Here you’ll find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations—Tesco, Lidl and Morrisons all sit on the town’s edge with extended hours—alongside a wider selection of shops in the centre. Exmoor, which spans West Somerset and North Devon, is often thought of as one of England’s quietly remarkable landscapes. It offers everything from short, gentle walks to long moorland hikes, horse riding, safaris, wildlife watching and leisurely visits to its picturesque villages. Whether you're drawn to dramatic scenery or peaceful countryside, this corner of the South West provides endless opportunities to explore and unwind.
