There are lots of walks you can do right from our doorstep, either short walks or longer ones. And, Ambleside has plenty of restaurants, bistros, and pubs.....all just a few minutes up the road.

Compston House is a traditional 1890's merchant house built of Lakeland stone. Throughout the years, it has been lovingly cared for and provided many guests with memorable visits of Ambleside. The property is ideally situated in the heart of Ambleside, close to all shops, bars and restaurants. Megan and John have recently taken over the property from New Yorkers Sue and Jerry and will continue to provide the same high quality hospitality and fantastic breakfasts making your stay all the more enjoyable! Sue passed on her secret recipes to John before leaving and he has mastered the art of the pancake, creamy scrambled eggs and eggy bread. All our ingredients are fresh and locally sourced ensuring your breakfast is what it should be - the best meal of the day! Whether you fancy a full English, a full American or something lighter, you will be sure to come away ready to start your day.
