Company information
We purchased the hotel in the spring of 2014 with the vision to transform it into a high quality boutique hotel with a friendly and homely atmosphere which compliments our personalities. Both our grown up children George and Emily help us in the business and we believe that this adds to the home from home experience that we aim to create at the hotel. We both enjoy meeting our guests and socialising. Neil is a chartered accountant who has spent many years working in the hospitality industry and Rosemarie has had a career spanning both The Houses of Parliament and the NHS. Neil plays golf and cricket locally and is a big sports fan. He is also a keen historian and wargamer. Rosemarie enjoys dancing, great food and nice clothes.
Property information
The Dower House Hotel is a 9 bedroom boutique hotel 2 miles to the west of Lyme Regis. The hotel is located in a Victorian country house which was substantially renovated by Neil and Rosemarie. Not only is the hotel set in a beautiful part of the world but it is also a large carbon usage property utilising environmentally friendly energy through its Biomass pellet boiler and PV solar energy system. The hotel has a heated open air swimming pool which is open between April and September. The hotel bar has been renovated to a contemporary design. Private dinner parties are proving particularly popular for family or friend groups where a private dining experience can be enjoyed in the dining room. Why not consider us for your special function or even your wedding. The hotel is also very private and is a great location for a private business meeting or executive away day. Dogs are welcome in a number of the hotel rooms and the bar but are not permitted in the dining room.
Neighbourhood information
Lyme Regis is one of the best known coastal tourist locations in England. It first became popular in the late 18th century and the author Jane Austen visited with her family on a number of occasions. The town is particularly famous for the number of fossils found there, one of the first well known fossil hunters to live in the town was Mary Anning. Today there are excellent walks, beaches and restaurants to enjoy in Lyme Regis as well as the fossils! The Dower House hotel is the closest hotel to the famous River Cottage HQ restaurant and a number of other very good restaurants and pubs offering a high standard of food are nearby. To the west of the hotel the new Jurassic Coast visitor centre has opened in Seaton in 2016 and the beautiful fishing village of Beer is only a short drive away together with the many other lovely coastal towns of Dorset and Devon. If golf is your interest both Lyme Regis and Axecliff golf courses are nearby and special rates are available to Dower House guests.
