Located in Clare, the lovely Gothic House Cottage is part of a Grade II listed building, and has the benefit of an open and airy extension overlooking the garden whilst retaining the cosy cottage feel. A perfect base from which to explore the rich heritage of West Suffolk, with the added bonus of the use of an outdoor, heated swimming pool and grass tennis court in the warmer months.

Clare has a rich heritage associated with the wool and cloth trade. The wealth of the merchants resulted in a some fine architectural buildings in the town and today there are 130 listed buildings. Probably one of the best ways to explore these and the town is to follow the town trail which gives you lots of information on the buildings as you walk. Clare Castle Country Park is home to the remains of 13th Century Clare Castle and the starting point of six circular walks which take in the town and surrounding countryside. For those who enjoy sport and leisure, Clare also has a 9 Hole Golf Course, set in scenic surroundings and offering a friendly and relaxed place to play. Honey Hill is an Italian restaurant serving pizzas and pasta in a relaxed atmosphere and Small Town Bakery and Cafe serves delicious coffee, pastries and snacks. Clare also boasts Harris & Harris, a superb independent bookshop. Venturing further afield, Long Melford, another great cloth town of Medieval Suffolk, boasts a main street buzzing with independent shops, galleries and restaurants, as well as two manor houses and the magnificent Trinity Church. The Trinity Church is believed to have stood on its hill top site for over 1000 years, but was entirely re-built during the 15th Century which was a time of great prosperity for the area. Both Kentwell Hall and Melford Hall are also well worth a visit if you can drag yourself away from the many eateries along the main street. The Black Lion offers a menu of carefully curated dishes with a focus on regional produce and the dining experience at The Swan at Long Melford is often described as exquisite. For a light-bite at lunch time, the Long Melford Tea Room comes highly recommended. Heading North-West you will discover Newmarket Races, the home of horse racing.
