A delightful four-bedroom holiday home, designed as a comfortable retreat all year round. Completed in 2025, the property has environmentally friendly features far beyond current building regulations with highly insulated walls, solar PV, a heat pump, ventilation system and triple glazing to keep down noise.
The layout is designed for comfort and convenience, with onsite parking, garage and flat wheelchair access throughout the ground floor. Plenty of bathrooms including shower room with a drying rail, spacious bedrooms and ample storage.
The kitchen and utility are well-equipped, including a large fridge and a separate large freezer.
There is plenty of seating space to relax and eat inside or outside on the large deck or balcony.
The garden area is newly planted, hence the wind and deer protection for the young plants, which appear on some of the photos. As the hedge matures this summer we aim to remove the netting, probably in the spring of 2026.
Sorry, but for the enjoyment of other guests we do not accept pets nor those who smoke or vape, even outside the property. We kindly ask that you respect these restrictions. Please note that there are no BBQ facilities, and as it has been so dry we ask that you do not BBQ on site.
We have designed the house from the ground up to make the most of current best practice in building technology to create a property which has a minimal impact on the environment. At Longshore Drift you can enjoy the luxuries that the modern world has to offer without wasting energy.
One day we shall retire here. In the meantime, we want to share it and the stunning views with others.
We are very happy to answer questions and may be flexible about check in/out dates and prices when possible.
All rooms at the back of the house face south and have sweeping views over green fields to The Fleet lagoon and Chesil Bank beyond. From the comfort of an armchair, unwind and watch the landscape change its colours as clouds roll in off the sea and scatter the sunlight. In a storm, enjoy the sight of seagulls playing in the wind and waves crashing over the top of the beach in the distance.
Turn either left or right out of the property and shortly there are footpaths down to the shore of The Fleet and where you can join the Jurassic Coast Path. (Don't worry, the distant firing range has not been used for many years!), We are only a few minutes from Weymouth main beach, one of the country's best sandy beaches with a host of seaside attractions. In fact, the location is great as you avoid being snarled in holiday traffic. The house is on the main coastal bus route serviced by an open-top bus in summertime. Head west and visit Hardy's monument with dramatic views all round Lyme Bay. Nearby is Abbotsbury Swannery, and Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, home to many unusual plants. Further along the coast is the market town of Bridport and West Bay, known to UK TV viewers for the detective series, "Broadchurch." Beyond that is the highest point on the south coast, Golden Cap. Travel east out of Weymouth to the very famous Jurassic coastal features of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Routes south take you alongside Portland Harbour, the 2012 Olympic sailing venue and one of the country's best locations for wind/kite/wing surfing, then onto the Isle of Portland, famous for pure white limestone, and at its tip is Portland Bill lighthouse. North is Maiden Castle, the largest and most complex Iron Age Hill Fort in Europe, and the county town of Dorchester.
There are supermarkets and food and drink outlets at all price points.
Whether you are into walking, cycling, sea swimming, sailing, wildlife, fishing or keeping children entertained, there is something for everyone.
