Moir Cottage is situated on the waterfront in the charming little fishing village of Portpatrick on the Rhins of Galloway in South-West Scotland. The cottage is 'Tardis-like'. Accommodation is on three floors. There are three large bedrooms, two good-sized bathrooms, a large kitchen, and a living room overlooking the harbour. Over the past 10 years my husband and I have invested in lots of improvements and additions to this 250-year old traditional building. These include a large and well-fitted new kitchen and dining area, and a second bathroom. We feel the 'old and new' come together well in this magical cottage.
My family come from the area and we have owned the cottage for more than 60 years. My my grandfather was a local farmer and my grandmother ran a guest house in the village. I spent part of my childhood here playing on the sandy beach just in front of the house.
Portpatrick is a part of the world where you can forget the stresses and strains of everyday life and relax into a time that you thought was long past. Stroll along the harbour front to one of the local pubs and enjoy a drink or meal as you watch the boats come and go, or take a picnic to one of the many deserted beaches up and down the coast. If you’re feeling a bit more energetic, there are spectacular 18-hole and 9-hole golf courses above the village, and lots of cliff and woodland walks. The Southern Upland Way, a walking trail that crosses Scotland from West to East, starts beside Portpatrick harbour.
