Meifod is a sunny little, stone-built village with a local pub, church and village hall enveloped by ragged hills and greenery, with attractive houses dressed in ivy. Situated about 8 miles north-west of Welshpool, this pretty village also offers its own football team, school and convenience store with a post office. Nearby, Llanfair Caereinion is in the heart of old Montgomeryshire's Banwy valley and is one of the smallest towns in Powys. Just a short walk over the Banwy Bridge from the hilly streets of the town centre, is the Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway. Every year the Llanfair Caereinion Carnival proceeds through the town, with a colourful parade of floats and dancing troupes. The Llanfair Show is also a cherished event; for one day only, the show aims to encompass all that is best in the Montgomeryshire countryside. Welshpool is a bustling market town, nestled in the upper reaches of the Severn Valley near the border between Wales and England. There is a lovely blend of shops, quality pubs and restaurants, as well as a restored cock fighting pit and interesting Heritage Trail.
