My partner and I have worked in the arts for most of our lives as artists, performers and educators. We fell under the spell of Hastings and St Leonard’s recently and decided that it would be a perfect bolt hole for us and our busy lives in London. The amazing light and stunning sea views, along with its artistic and super-friendly vibe are what made us love the area and want to be here as much as we can. Then we found Smugglers Cottage and were smitten by this beautiful & characterful house right on the seafront. Since then it’s been our mission to restore this house to its fullest possible beauty and allow others to enjoy it too, so holiday letting seemed a great way to do this. We also love to travel and are planning to further explore the stunning country of Montenegro in more detail. Location, Location, Location! Smugglers Cottage is in the rarely privileged location of seafront and in the heart of the old town of Hastings. As such everything you could wish to do, visit or see in Hastings is on the doorstep, or very close by. To the front is the wonderful expanse of beach, the boating pond and characteristic fishing huts and boats, Behind the house is George Street and the High street, both known for their wonderful array of delightful independent shops. There you will also find a fabulous choice of restaurants, pubs, bistros and cafes for all tastes. Music Arts & Culture are also in abundance here - from great pub bands to high art there’s always something to celebrate, join in and enjoy. Along the road is the Jerwood Gallery and also the Stade arena with its many attractions & events - music and food festivals such as ‘Fat Tuesday’ Mardi Gras in February and the Seafood & Wine Festival in September to name just two. Both East & West cliffs offer fantastic natural areas of beauty for walking and enjoyment plus their working funicular railways, built during the Victorian period, are a must to experience.
