The Side is compact and comfortable and located in a quiet residential street in the east end of Hexham, providing a great base to spend some time in the beautiful Tyne Valley and surrounding area of Northumberland. It's called The Side because it is on the side of our house. It is entirely separate and self contained with a bed-sitting room, well equipped kitchen and shower room. Free off street parking. Guests should know that we live at the top of a steep but short hill. (It takes me just over a minute to walk from the bottom to the top of the hill and I am 66!). It is around a 15 minute walk to the town centre and only a 15 minute drive to Hadrian's Wall.

I'm a retired Social Enterprise Chief Executive. I set up a community music project in 2008 in Hexham called Core Music. I was a member of a folk rock band for 20 years and played at various festivals in the UK and in Europe and was involved in recording and releasing 6 cds during this time. My wife, Lorna, is a self employed psychotherapist and is passionate about outdoor swimming. We have lived in our house in Hexham for 19 years and love it! We both enjoy meeting and chatting to people and we are very happy being hosts for our guests.

A quiet residential street on the east side of Hexham. There is no through traffic. The Side is at the top of short but quite steep hill so please bear this in mind! Some of our guests who are older and/or have mobility difficulties have found the hill to be a challenge. There is an alternative walking route to the town centre which is slightly longer but less steep. Please ask us about this if required. There is a dedicated free parking space on the drive for one car. It's 15 minute walk to the town centre and railway station. Hadrian's Wall is a 15 minute drive. There are buses to Newcastle to the east and Carlisle to the west. Bus routes to outlying towns and villages also operate. A special bus service, the AD122, provides regular journeys along Hadrian's Wall.
