Fancy enjoying your morning coffee with red squirrels and Scottish wild birds? The Wilds is set in a mature 2 ½ acre garden that is a nature watches haven, as well as a child’s idea of garden perfection with a wooden play frame and lots and lots of trees, a little stream and a long, smooth hill (just perfect for sledging). The adults have certainly been well-catered for too, with a cedar-clad 8-person hot tub, an outdoor eating area and a fire pit - all the ingredients for a relaxing evening after a day spent exploring the Cairngorms..

You would be forgiven for thinking that the location of a lodge called The Wilds might be just that. Even though you will feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, you are really convenient for both Aviemore (15 minutes away) and Kingussie (under 10 minutes away). Close by and ready to be explored is the Spey Distillery (which runs fascinating tours); Insh Marshes - a peaceful haven for wildlife and location of some wonderful walks, and Ruthven Barracks, a site run by Historic Scotland and well worth a visit, particularly if you take an interest in Jacobite history. There are a number of walking routes that can be accessed only metres away from the drive of the lodge. Only 5 minutes drive from the lodge is the outdoor playground of Loch Insh - a watersports centre where you can sail, windsurf, Canadian canoe, kayaks, as well as enjoy land based sports such as archery and dry slope skiing. It also has a large restaurant and bar. The terrace and beach is the locals’ favourite place to spend summer evenings soaking up the sun and holiday atmosphere - the sunsets across the loch from the beach in summer are simply beautiful.
