Weardale Cottage is set in the wonderful landscape of the North Pennines in the charming village of Saint John's Chapel. The village is well served with a shop, pubs and tea rooms. The cottage is very cosy and finished to a high standard with king size beds and a wonderful log burner in the lounge. The bathroom has a separate bath and shower. We have fallen in love with this part of the world and hope to spend time in Weardale walking and relaxing.
Martin is a retired headmaster and Fiona works as a clinical skills teacher. We live in Ripon, about one and half hours away. We have three sons. Both of us love wild and beautiful countryside and enjoy walking and cycling - Weardale is perfect for us.
The area is packed with things to do; Killhope Lead Mine is nearby as is High and Low Force, the most spectacular waterfalls in England. The Weardale Way runs through Saint John's Chapel and the Pennine Way is nearby. Walks start from the front door. The River Wear is one of the finest fishing rivers in England and wildlife abounds with black grouse and large numbers of wading birds breeding in the area. Rare plants such as the spring gentian thrive in the moors and Weardale is famed for its upland hay meadows. Above all it is quiet and peaceful- ideal for a reviving break.
