Η Άνω Σύρος είναι ένας μεσαιωνικός οικισμός χτισμένος πάνω σε βράχο από τους Ενετούς. Αμέτρητα σκαλοπάτια ανεβάζουν στην κορυφή, ανάμεσα από στενά δρομάκια με κάτασπρα σπίτια με πολύχρωμες πόρτες ,συνθέτοντας μια άλλη πολιτεία. Ο οικισμός δημιουργήθηκε με βάση τις ανάγκες της εποχής ,οι οποίες ήταν η προστασία από τις επιδρομές και η ασφάλεια των κατοίκων .Έτσι τα σπίτια χτίστηκαν με τέτοιο τρόπο ώστε να αποτελούν φυσική οχύρωση.Η μαγευτική θέα στο πέλαγος είναι μοναδική από την Ανω Σύρο ,δίνοντας την ευκαιρία στον επισκέπτη να δει τα γειτονικά νησιά Τήνο, Δήλο, Μύκονο, Πάρο και Νάξο. Ανάμεσα στα αξιοθέατα που μπορείτε να επισκεφθείτε είναι οι μονές των Ιησουιτών , των Καπουτσίνων ,καθώς και η καθολική εκκλησία του Αγίου Γεωργίου, στην κορυφή του οικισμού. Στα στενά της Ανω Σύρου μεγάλωσε και πρώτο τραγούδησε ο πατριάρχης του ρεμπέτικου Μάρκος Βαμβακάρης , και το σπίτι του διατηρείτε και λειτουργεί ως μουσείο. Κατά τη διάρκεια του καλοκαιριού, διοργανώνονται εκθέσεις και εκδηλώσεις στα πλαίσια τοπικών φεστιβάλ.
