Paralia is the taverna in Agia Roumeli between the harbour and the ferry ticket office and next to the main beach. The original 20ΤΗ century building, part of which still stands and was converted to more rooms in 2016, was used also as a police office. However, the new luxury rooms bear no resemblance to the original minimal police cells. Most of the rooms have balconies overlooking the harbour and with a view of Gavdos, the most southerly island in Europe, over the Libyan Sea. Rooms at the rear of the property look out on the stunning Lefka Ori (White Mountains) as they tower to over 2,000metres directly from sea level. A second advantage of these rooms is that when Poseidon becomes a bit temperamental and the sea gets noisy then the back of the property is more sheltered. Fortunately this does not occur too often in the summer months. Our location is thus without dispute the best in Agia Roumeli and our restaurant and the cafe/snackbar next door provide the perfect setting for watching the coming and goings of the ferries and fishing boats.

There is no road connection and access is only by sea , the gorge, or a long arduous walk along the coastal path of the Cretan Way (part of the trans Europe E4 pathway system stretching from The East of Crete into Spain). This provides the perfect setting for those seeking escape from the much more commercial and hectic nightlife in the North Crete tourist resorts. Walking and sports related to the sea are the major activities in the area but many guests come solely to relax away from the stresses and strain of modern life. The high number of repeat visitors to Paralia over many years pay tribute to a successful formula.
