We are Kostas and Eliza. We fell victim to Villa Maria’s charms many years ago and have enjoyed giving it a new lease of life. Kostas is a native of the island and Eliza first came as a visitor, fell in love with the island and made it her home. We are keen and experienced travellers, and our vision has always been to offer our guests the same things that we look for in our travels: an authentic experience, a glimpse of real life, interaction with local people. We are on hand to provide information to suit your needs and personal interests, to make sure you get an insight into our rich local history and culture. Villa Maria is a listed 19th century neo-classical mansion. Built by a local factory owner in 1873 at the height of Ermoupolis’ prosperity, it is a fine example of the architecture of the period. In restoring it we have preserved all the original features —wooden floors and ceilings, marble bathrooms, decorative mouldings— and used antique furniture to give it a comfortable but authentic feel. The second floor balconies and the roof terrace have panoramic views over the town, the port and across to the neighbouring islands. Behind the villa is a courtyard with plants, built-in seating and a shaded dining area. The villa is on a pedestrian street right in the middle of town, yet a haven of peace and quiet. It is 2 minutes walk from the main square and market, and 5 minutes walk from the Vaporia. This is the town’s ‘Little Venice’, a lido with cafes and crystal-clear water for swimming. The villa has 2 apartments and 4 studios that can be rented separately or in any combination.

The house couldn't be more ideally located. In the heart of the historical town, it is within short walking distance from everything. Two minutes uphill walk from the main town square around which are all the best cafes and restaurants, a lively local market with fresh produce, stylish little shops and art galleries. The main port is a 5 minute walk. The famous Apollo theater where several musical and theatrical events take place, as well as an international opera festival, is a 3 minute walk. Also within a very short walk there is a lovely spot for swimming in Vaporia neighborhood, the little Venice of Syros. Crystal clear waters by a nice all day cafe-restaurant with magnificent views of the historical waterfront buildings. A unique experience! Yet the house's location is surprisingly peaceful and quiet, set back from a little cobblestone pedestrian street. The whole area is pedestrian, so perfectly quiet and safe for children. To reach the house you need to go up two flights of steps (70-80 steps) from the closest road accessible by car. At the foot of the steps there is a wonderful playground for young children.
