Jelsa is located in the central part of the island of Hvar and is bordered by the island's two highest peaks - in the west St. Nikola, and in the east Hum. In the south it is surrounded by the hills Vrh, Gozd and Samotarac, and on the north side is the Burkovo hill which protects it from the north winds. All the towns and settlements on the island have numerous monuments of architecture and fine arts that witness island's rich artistic traditions. Jelsa is home to one of the largest and most beautiful parks in Dalmatia - Perivoj, built in 1870 on a floodplain. Numerous festivals and various events are organized during the summer - the most famous ones are "Fisherman's Night" and "Wine Festival". The "Wine Festival" offers the best Hvar wines, local specialties and plenty of entertainment.
