Interesting fact is that once the islands Cres and Lošinj were actually one island named Osor, before channel was cut. Nowdays Osor lies at channel that separates islands Cres and Lošinj. Islands are connected with a rotating bridge. The channel was build by Romans to make sailing possible. Osor is an open-air museum where you can find ancient town square surrounded by beautiful buildings from XV and XVI centuries, Bishop's palace, cathedral and bell tower from the early Christian era; Through the town you can encounter many sculptures left behind by the great croatian artist Ivan Meštrović. During the summer months the town becomes open-air stage for Osor Musical Event, which has been held every year in the summer since 1976. If you like to hike there is the mountain Osorčica with the highest peak of 588 meters. Osor also offers you the possibility to hunt wild boar, deers, woodcock and wild pigeons. Interesting thing about hunting ground is that there isn't closed season for wild boar through the year.
