Welcome to Madeline's homely country cottage in Billamore, Oughterard, the gateway to Connemara! If you're looking for a cosy and inviting place to stay, Madeline's cottage is the perfect choice. Located just a 10-minute walk (2km) from the village, you'll have easy access to all the amenities and attractions Oughterard has to offer.
Start your day off right with a delicious breakfast at one of the local hot spots. Connelly's, located near the church, and The Lake Hotel in the town square are both fantastic options. For a taste of homemade local produce and amazing creamy coffee, be sure to visit O'Sullivans as you enter the village.
When it comes to lunch and dinner, we highly recommend the Connemara Greenway cafe/restaurant, open Wednesday to Saturday. Owner Johnny sources fresh local produce and fish daily, creating a memorable dining experience. Powers Thatch Bar and Restaurant is another great spot for bar food and traditional music sessions on the weekends.
For a creamy pint of Guinness, head to Hessions in the heart of the town. It's the perfect place to unwind and soak in the local atmosphere.
The house was built in 2004, & my Mother lived there until she passed away in 2021 from Motor Neurone. Madeline was so proud of the house & kept it immaculate. Hence the name of the House.
The House is on a stand alone 3 acre site with free private car parking.
At the rear of the house the railway line from Dublin to Galway & onwards to Clifden was built. It was removed in 1930s due to running costs.
There are many walks from Madeleines Place the first & quietest is taking a right & right immediately again which will bring you to Burke’s stream approx 2km away. You can return & then walk into Oughterard village in 10 minutes.
On entrance to village take a right and walk to Oughterard Pier & gaze on beautiful Lough Corrib as the sun sets. There are daily boat trips to Inchagoill island where there is an old monastic settlement & then on to Cong where you can enjoy Ashford Castle.
On returning to Oughterard village please visit Keoghs gift shop for a warm welcome from Henry & browse through his shop.All irish made gifts & Irish knitwear.
