Marzamemi is small and can only be visited on foot. We start our walk from the promenade that overlooks Isola Piccola, known as Islet Brancati. The small harbour la Balata, which, together with the Fossa, is one of Marzamemi's two small natural harbours. The picturesque and colourful fishing boats are usually moored here. The port is also overlooked by the famous Tonnara di Marzamemi, one of the oldest and most important in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, second only to that of Favignana. Then, walking along the small and picturesque Vicolo Villadorata, past the arch, you enter the heart of the ancient Borgo di Marzamemi: Piazza Regina Margherita. At the end of the alley is the old Church of San Francesco da Paola, or Church of the Tonnara. On the opposite side of the square, stands the new Church of San Francesco da Paola, built in 1945 in sandstone, a typical local material. Among the most beautiful beaches in Marzamemi are the Spiaggia della Spinazza, the Baia del Cavettone, the Spiaggia di San Lorenzo, the Spiaggia di Vendicari, and the Spiaggia di Calamosche. Nearby, a few minutes' drive away is Portopalo di Capo Passero, the small island of Correnti and the Vendicari Nature Reserve.
