Dar 91 is a trio of private, serviced apartments in the medina (walled old town) of Essaouira, on Morocco’s wild and beautiful Atlantic coast. If you’re looking for a comfortable, stylish and affordable place to stay, slightly off the beaten track, you’ve come to the right place. We’re situated in Chbanat, a quiet, authentic and traditional artisan neighbourhood close to Bab Doukkala and Bab Marrakech. Tucked away from the tourist trail, the house is just five minutes from the souks and 10-15 minutes’ stroll from the beach, harbour, bars and restaurants. Our three apartments occupy what was originally an 18th century police watchtower. Each is self-contained and can be rented all year round. PLEASE NOTE: 'Apartment with Terrace/Dar 91 Wahed' and 'Penthouse Apartment/Dar 91 Zhuzh' have roof terraces - 'Studio Apartment/Dar 91 Tlata' does not. We cannot accept bookings from unmarried couples if one/either of you are a Moroccan national. We’ve welcomed guests from all over the world since opening in 2006. We have been renting out the Dar 91 apartments, having renovated them from scratch, since 2006. Essaouira is a beautiful place, and its people are genuinely warm and welcoming. Take a stroll along the 5km long sweeping, sandy beach; watch the fishermen mend their nets in the picturesque harbour; buy fresh fish, spices and fruit in the bustling souks; watch the sun set over the ramparts. Whether you're into surfing, souk shopping or cafe-hopping, Essaouira is a fantastic year-round holiday destination, where you can soak up the sun and explore Moroccan culture at your own pace. Our apartments are situated near Bab Doukkala in Chbanat - a sleepy residential district off the beaten track and dotted with tiny weaving, carpentry and other workshops. Whereas other parts of town have modernised hugely in recent years, Chbanat retains an authentic, local charm. We are tucked away from the tourist trail, but still just five minutes from the souks and 10-15 minutes' stroll from the beach, harbour, bars and restaurants. Please note: you will see poverty in Chbanat and throughout Essaouira, and there can sometimes be street noise: do not expect a 'sanitised' holiday experience!
