Åkrafjordtunet opna dørene i mai 1999 i forbindelse med den store utbygginga av ny europaveg langs Åkrafjorden. Det var tidligere finansminister og stortingrepresentant Gunnar Berge som stod for den offiselle opninga. Åkrafjordtunet starta som eit bygdeinitativ for å ta vare på lokale mattradisjonar og bidra til nye arbeidsplassar og tilflytting. I 2011 blei butikken kåra til norges beste bygdebutikk av Merkur i regi av Regional og kommunaldepartementet.

Åkrafjordtunet ligg like ved E 134 med utsikt mot Folgefonna Nasjonalpark. Åkrafjorden er kjent for sine bratte fjell, djupe fjord og stolte mattradisjonar. Største turistattraksjon er Langfoss med sine 612 meter høge fossefall og kåra til ein av verdens 10 vakraste fossar av CNN Travel. Mange av våras kunder kjem for å oppleve dette flotte område av Fjord Norge med Trolltunga, Preikestolen, Folgefonna og Langfoss som dei mest besøkte. Me har ingen resepsjon.
