Access to Kākā Ridge Retreat Luxury Cottage is via our driveway and shared parking area with a short walk past the house. The cottage itself is separate from the house and once there you have exclusive use of this lovely guest accommodation and can enjoy your peaceful seclusion with only the sound of birdsong to interrupt your thoughts. The cottage garden and a large native tree area create space and visual privacy from the main house.

My husband John and I moved from Auckland city to the Tāwharanui Peninsula in 2015. We love it here and have never missed city living once! We love the peace and quiet and the abundance of bush, birds and sea. We are lucky enough to have a completely separate cottage on our property that we renovated for short term rental during 2016. The cottage is fully ready for travellers looking for privacy, seclusion, the beauty of nature and some luxury. Prior to living in Tāwharanui John and I had corporate careers in telecommunications and project management. We still do some consulting work from home or travel to Auckland from time to time.

An easy 15 minute drive takes you to the renowned Matakana Village which hosts a weekend farmers’ market, vintage market, restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and a cinema complex. With many vineyards and art galleries in the surrounding area, there is always plenty to do. If you are a swimmer, surfer, bird lover or bush walker this is the perfect place for you. Kākā Ridge Retreat Luxury Cottage is only three km from the stunning 600 hectare Tāwharanui Regional Park bird sanctuary and marine reserve. Tāwharanui features fantastic white sand surf beaches, great walks and rare NZ bird-life such as takahē, tīeke and even kiwi, at night. Goat Island is only 25 minutes away for snorkeling or viewing marine life from the glass bottom boat or clear kayaks.
