Nestled in New Zealand bush next to State Highway 1, and easily accessible just 5 kilometers South of Turangi, The Grumpy Trout Lodge is a fantastic base for your adventures in the ares. Covered parking outside the main entrance gives easy access to unload and load. The property has an inside non-smoking policy. Pets as in dogs are welcome. This lovely and spacious holiday home has a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, an oven, a microwave and a Nespresso-style coffee machine. Coffee, tea and more are provided for the guests as well as a welcome fruitbowl. The kitchen, dining and living room area is open plan. The dining area generously seats 6 and the seating area with a closed fire place has got comfortable seating to relax in. Access to the private outdoor dining/entertainment area/bbq is from the lounge. There are plenty of books, games and videos for evening entertainment and Wifi is free of charge. The lodge has got 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms with the master bathroom featuring a shower while the second bathroom has got an addition of a bathtub, and a washing machine. The second bathroom is easily accessible for everyone from the 'lobby'/main entrance area. In the 'lobby'/entrance area is a comfortable sofa bed that makes up the sleeping arrangement for a 5th guest. Skiing, cycling and hiking are possible within the area, and the holiday home offers ski storage space. This space is also an excellent drying room with a small heater/dryer, humidifier and a clothes dryer. Behind the drying shed is a fish cleaning area with a stainless-steel bench and running cold water. This area also features a small hot smoker for the catch of the day! New World Supermarket is 5 minutes away by car, which is also Turangi center with pharmacy, bakeries, cafes and restaurants. Tongariro River fishing spots nearby are: Poutu pool, Red Hut Bridge (within walking distance), Blue Pool (7 minutes drive South).

Our area is truly a fly-fisherman’s mecca, and the Tongariro river, considered one of the best in the world. But there is so much more! River-rafting, walking, mountain-biking, hiking, skiing, just to mention a few. Completing the well known Tongariro Alpine Crossing is on top of many of our visitors list. There is something for everyone, and The Grumpy Trout Lodge is a great place from where to begin your adventure.
