Simple and comfortable beachfront apartments located in Madalena do Mar: one of the most unique fisherman villages of Madeira Island. It's a practical base for those looking to discover the island and to enjoy an authentic way of living with the locals. A place where you can feel a strong connection between the ocean and the most dramatic cliffs. One step away from the pebble beach of Madalena do Mar, close to the known Banana Route, 2.8 km from Ponta do Sol village and 2-minute driving from the famous Anjos Waterfall. The property is a semi-detached fishing house composed of 2 separated apartments: 1 openspace studio (Farol) & 1-bedroom apartment in the ground floor (Baldeia). Both apartments feature independent entrance, living space, sleeping area (2 pax in a double size bed), kitchen and bathroom with shower. Both kitchens, in each apartment, are equipped with the necessary tools so guests can prepare their own meals. Meals are not included (selfcatering). The apartments have excellent sun exposure. On the back, the apartments have exterior areas with table and chairs, to enjoy a meal outside, facing the banana plantation area of Madalena do Mar. The outdoor area of Farol studio, on the top floor, is a suspended balcony. Baldeia apartment, on the groundfloor, has a patio in the middle of the neighborhood where you can see neighbors using the old water tanks or cleaning fish they catch. A true local experience to enjoy.

Hello, we're Família Gouveia! A Madeiran family in love with this island, local traditions and nature. Some years ago we were looking for a calm location to spend weekends & holidays in the countryside. We found Calhau Grande in Arco da Calheta: a wild place with big rocks, terraces and superb ocean views over the ocean. We immediately felt in love and decided to restore the ruins, step by step, to create our shelter. It later became our family-run tourism project. In 2004, we started our journey welcoming guests & friends. When we re-think travelling Madeira, we aim to offer the most authentic way of living our beautiful island. In 2019, after some years of experience running rural tourism units, we decided to renovate this picturesque fisherman house, as our beach shelter. We have already spent some pleasant moments with our family here and we will be happy to receive you! You are warmly invited to live this experience with us!

Madalena do Mar is an oceanfront friendly and quiet village on the Western area of Madeira. It has a 2km flat promenade by the ocean, great to do some walks and to enjoy unbeliveble sunsets. Here you can also find some walking distance restaurant options. In summer time, some restaurants offer the possibility to eat on the beach pebbles. The nearest supermarket is 3 mins by car in Ponta do Sol. In Madalena do Mar you can enjoy the Banana Route, that crosses one of the largest banana plantation areas of Madeira and the famous Anjos Waterfall that is 2 minutes away by car. From the studio you can easily access different common paths that cross the fisherman neighbourhood called Canto do Paço in Madalena do Mar. Here you can feel the local living, talk to fishermen, see the colourful little boats and smell the flowers that neighbours carefully plant around the houses. If you have the change of eating fresh fish directly to the neighbours during your stay, it is a really nice experience that you will never forget. In this place it looks like Spring all year round, as it takes advantage of surprisingly balmy weather! In summer, the temperatures range from 24ºC to 27ºC, and in the Winter from 17ºC to 20ºC. When traveling to Madeira Islands, you can expect to discover: local traditions, beautiful Levadas and walks with amazing scenarios, the Laurissilva Forest classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, great variety of regional dishes and wines, unmissable touristic events and amazing adventures.
