“CASA CURRAL do Porco” translates from Portuguese into English as “Pig Barn”. The property was originally listed as an agricultural building and converted into a guest annex. It has now been beautifully renovated to provide spacious 1-bedroom self-catering accommodation. The door at the front of the property allows easy access to the living space/bedroom from the car parking area. The bedroom/living space includes a comfortable sofa and a flat screen TV, along with a 3-door wardrobe and a beautiful dressing table. There are USB charging ports at each side of the bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven with 4 rings and a grill, a microwave, kettle and toaster. Hot water is provided via a 50L electric heater and there is a wood burning stove to provide heating in the cooler months. The bathroom comprises a large walk-in shower, WC and hand basin. The courtyard is accessed via the kitchen and is totally private for guests with screens on the gates. This area has plenty of sun and shade and includes a dining set, relax chairs and a Lay-Z-Spa inflatable hot tub jacuzzi which is for sole private use. In the evening, solar lights provide soft lighting. Photo ID (citizen card, passport) is required for all guests.

Hello! We are Rachael and Stretch and we are your hosts here at CASA CURRAL do Porco. Originally from Huddersfield (UK), we have lived in Portugal since September 2023. We have been visiting the beautiful central region of Portugal for over 15 years – we love the mountains, river beaches and history, as well as the friendly local people. We also enjoy sampling the wide variety of fabulous cheese and wine produced here! We bought our property (comprising our house and the guest annex) in 2020, with a view to retiring here in a good few years, however following Stretch’s lung cancer diagnosis in 2021 and successful treatment we decided that there was no time to waste, so here we are, a little earlier than planned! We live on site at CASA CURRAL do Porco (in the house ‘next door’, 50 yds away) and our mission is to to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Please don’t hesitate to ask us for anything – from additional towels or tea-bags, recommendations for markets or places to eat, hiking trails or taxi services. We are here for you!

CASA CURRAL do Porco is situated in the Coimbra region of central Portugal between the rivers Mondego and Alva. It is the perfect base to explore the region but a car is essential as there are no large shops within walking distance (although the traditional English pub, The George and Dragon, which serves food and drinks is only 700 steps away!). The nearest town, Tábua, is a 10 minute drive, where you will find supermarkets, petrol stations, shops and restaurants. Oliveira do Hospital is the nearest city (20 minutes drive) where you will find a larger selection of amenities. Approximate driving times: Porto Airport – 1 hour 45 minutes Coimbra – 45 minutes Praia Fluvial Senhora da Ribeira – 25 minutes Figueira de Foz – 1 hour Peak of Torre (highest mountain in Portugal) – 1 hour
