Casa do Ananas is a large property, extending to over 3,000 sq.ft. and was built to a high specification with; 2 en-suite bathrooms, twin bedroom on the lower ground floor, open-plan kitchen and dining room with large terrace overlooking the bay of Lajes. All bedrooms have satellite television, as does the kitchen. The property enjoys a generous sized plot overlooking the sea. The house is split level with external terraced gardens and a large 17 x 8m swimming pool & sun terrace.
Pico was built on whale hunting and winery traditions. Whale and dolphin watching has now taken over from Hunting. Lajes do Pico is the whale watching centre of the Azores. 'Verdelho' wines once graced the table of the Tzars of Russia. Many parts of the island are protected from development by UNESCO. The area the property is located in is a maritime conservation area due to the beauty of the coastline.
Popular activities include; Whale and Dolphin watching, walking, horse riding, bike riding, caving, climbing, diving and swimming. The Azores is not a destination for those looking for a wild night life, but instead attracts those looking for an unspoilt location. You will need to book whale watching and horse rising activities in advance; please ask for details.
Our property, 7km (4 miles) west of the town of Lajes, occupies a commanding cliff-top site of around ½ acre with a seafront frontage of more than 60 meters (200 feet). Wonderful views across to Lajes can be seen from the beautiful gardens surrounding the property. South facing with sun from dawn ‘til dusk, Casa do Ananas enjoys unobstructed sea views. Alto Pico, the conical cinder cone atop the mountain, can often be seen from whilst swimming in the private pool.
The nearest restaurant is a pleasant 10 minute walk along the coast. In summer months a local bar opens up next to the swimming area around 100m away. It offers snacks and ice creams.
We consider car hire is essential. Please ask for recommendations of local car hire companies rather than booking through the intermediary agencies.
